How much is appropriate to spend on food for a birthday party

My sons birthday party is coming up on the 25th, his birthday is the 29th, we’re just planning to grille in the backyard and have people over, im having such trouble figuring out how much to spend, and what all I should be buying to eat for this party, my general idea was to make burgers, hot dogs, fries, and sweet potato’s for the baby’s or something else they could eat, get chips of course, drinks, maybe a meat and cheese platter, and the cake and ice cream but I feel so stressed because I’m a stay at home mom so money is so tight for us until I can find work

my SIL had a fruit/veggie tray, chips, cheese dip, and cake lol. plus sweet tea and water. you don't even necessarily HAVE to provide food aside from snacks and drinks

I would skip fries and do cut up veg/fruit. Especially if you are having bags of chips available.

If you do the party for a short time like 4 hrs or something your don’t need so much food but if you expect for them to stay late then I think more food should be provided. What you said I think is appropriate for like 4-6 hrs. Nachos are a really cheap option as well I always have some incase anyone doesn’t get full they have that. Costco pizzas are also cheap and big just get it “party cut” so the slices are more regular.
I usually spend 600-700 it’s more towards 800 in this economy tho but I do too much lol keep it simple. Easy cheap food like sandwiches, pinwheels, casseroles, tacos, pancakes, pasta salads, potato salad will keep people full and in budget. You’ll get the hang of it the more you do this. Also you’ll see if it’s actually worth it and who’s there for you.

I literally spent less than $100 for my daughter's 1st birthday. They can get so expensive for something they won't even remember. Granted, I made her cake and cooked all the food. It was in the morning so, Quiches, fruit, some sweet treats, cupcakes, juice. A few balloons, table cloths, and cutlery. There were probably 10-15 ppl including myself, hubs, and our moms.

But what's appropriate is what you can afford. Set a budget and stick to it. No need in stressing yourself out over this.

@Kevina that is so nice that you cooked for all of them. Big respect for you! 🌺🌸 I am planning this coming weekend to make everything from scratch. Not only because it’s cheaper, because I want to serve healthy food for kids and my guests. I know it will take a lot of energy and time, but I want them to feel welcomed and appreciated! The best I can do to give them love through home made bread, juices from scratch, grill, cakes, and fruits!

I would hate myself to order pizza and serve to the kids. That’s just me!

We are planing to spend around $600-$700 with food and little bounce house playset rental. 🎀🩷🌸

Whew, girl, kudos to you! Homemade bread and juice! You're going all out! The healthy factor was what I was going for too! We'll probably do bigger parties and rentals as the kids get older, but this year we're being super low-key. Just our immediate family (daughters have the same birthday).

Weaning

Has anyone started weaning their baby yet? Mine is 4 and a half months old and I’m thinking of starting her on baby porridge as she’s on 8oz bottles every 3 hours but always seems hungry

Anyone have a husband like this?

I work 2 full time jobs, pay all my own bills including buying all the stuff for my child that he steps parents. The only thing he pays for is rent (I pay utilities) and car insurance. I pay for everything else. Well, I just found out that he makes $20k a month. He brags to his friends that he pays for all my bills and takes care of my child ALL the time. All he does is pick him up from daycare (because it’s close to his work) and occasionally puts him to bed.

Everything we do has to benefit him in some way. We can never do anything I want to do without him throwing a tantrum like a child. He even goes to every work event with me, every hangout, I’m never alone unless I’m physically at work but he’ll randomly just show up to see what I’m doing. I’ve gotten to the point where everything gets to me emotionally and I’m on edge - I can’t even talk to him about my work day anymore without him bitching, I don’t have friends and when I make friends he hates all them and think they’re using me to find men. He tells everyone I’m crazy and need to be on medication even though he’s the one that’s been making me feel this way.

I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. The economy sucks, I don’t get child support and I have so much debt from our wedding because I had to take loans out. (He only paid for the venue)

Please any advice.

Am I in the wrong?

So my ex (kiddos dad) and i live together as roommates. I mad a friend and we would hang out sometimes but its gotten more serious. The past two weeks iv been going to her house more and more staying for maybe an hour or 2 after kiddo goes to sleep. I have spent the night one time at her house and then planned to do it again this week but for 2 nights (after kiddo goes to sleep) hes mad because hes "stuck" there and says im treating him as a live in baby sitter.... he like "what if I have plans" I asked "what are your plans, if you have plans i will cancel" hes like "I dont but I could" to which I replied and said "well if you tell me when you do, I can cancel." Its just so frustrating...hes upset because he has to wake up with her even though i have done that every single night for last 4 years. I take care of her all day and some nights leave for 1-2 hours while shes sleeping. Most times I come back and he is still awake while shes been asleep. Its just frustrating.

Kissing Babies

what’s the thoughts on other people kissing your babies???
my LO 4mo and I only let me and his dad kiss him.
My partners family keep asking when they can / going to do it until I stop them.
It just makes me feel soooo uncomfortable I don’t think I’ll ever want anyone else to.
I think the fear is coming from being a dental assistant 🤣

Am I in the wrong?

my almost 6 month old baby goes to my sister or my mum three times a week while I work, my mother in law works full time and doesn’t have any set days off. This week she wanted to have my baby on Friday for the full day while I work. Firstly I don’t want to disrupt the arrangements but secondly I don’t feel comfortable her having my baby for the full day, she has seen her 4 times in 3 months. I have told her and she says she doesn’t understand, it’s her granddaughter…

Dad isn’t great with our baby - help!

TLDR: my BD cannot calm our baby. I tried to help by sharing what I do but he hates feedback and gets very upset. I don’t think he knows how to emotionally regulate himself. You can feel the tension in the air the second she starts crying. What can I do?? Will this ever go away??

Long version:
First time parents with a 4 month old. He had 12 weeks of paternity leave after she was born so they have had time to bond. He was great for the first 6 weeks, but as her brain started to wake up, he’s been struggling to soothe her. As in literally cannot.

I think the biggest issue is his emotional regulation. He gets visibly rigid and irritated when she starts to cry. He’s made comments like “I’d help but she f^cking hates me” and “I never thought you and I would end up with a bad baby” I’ve told him to never joke about that or say those things out loud. And the truth is, she’s a very happy baby… when he’s at work. She’s all smiles and giggles and goes to sleep within minutes when it’s just her and me.

When she fusses with him I stay out of the way in the hopes they will find something that works. Eventually he gives up and hands her over to me, very frustrated. I might rock or shush in a more gentle way but all he sees is the same motion working and he gets very angry about it. The worst part is that he is so upset when I’m able to sooth her that he has to leave the room.

He does not like feedback of any kind. I tried “maybe some rhythmic shushing” or “let’s step outside to help break the crying fit” and it only made him more mad, which ended up making her cry more.

So - the ask - is this normal?! How long will this last? How can I help my BD and baby get along??

And for context, she is bottle/formula fed (supply issues 💔) so it’s not a boob thing.
