Anyone else not understanding the 30 free hours a week funding, my LG goes to nursery 30 hours a week and even with the funding I’m still paying £480 a month 🙄 is this normal?

Yep, each nursery has their own way of working the hours out and contributions to make eg to snacks.
Usually the hours cover school hours and term time only. So if you’re in before 9am and past 3.30 for example and in the school holidays you’ll have the hours spread out across.

The 30 free hours covers 38 weeks in a year. Meaning that you’ll need to cover the cost of the remaining 14 weeks in the year. Your LG’s nursery has probably spread the cost of the 14 weeks evenly over 12 months, hence the £480 monthly charge.

My son goes 30hrs and that’s cheaper than I’m being charged and that’s with staff discount!

As Laura says, the 30 hours cover term time only. So if your LG goes to nursery through out the year then the 20 hours funding is stretched, which works out to be 22 hours per week funded. So as your LG is going 30 hours, there's an extra 8 hours per week you're having to pay for.
Our nursery also charges an hourly rate (£2) for those funded hours to cover extras such as food, supplies etc
