My baby has finally slept through the last two nights! 🥰🥳

From a BF baby who coslept for 6 months and then on and off again from 9 to 12 months, this is a real breakthrough for us. She slept 11 hours and 20 mins the night before last and 11 hours last night 🥰

She started sleeping 8.5 to 10 hour stint a couple of weeks ago but we were having a few weeks of early starts at 4 30/5am 🥱😫 but now that extra hour makes all the difference. To those of whom babies still aren't sleeping through the night, your time will come. My baby girl was 13 months the other day, and I was beginning to believe it was never going to happen. May it long last! (Go away teething and illness 😖) xx

Hi! Did you do anything differently? Asking because I’m open to anything at this point 😂

Hi @Issy
Yes, 4 weeks ago, from feeding upto 5 times a night and being back at work and feeling totally drained and exhausted I decided to stop BFing at night. She's old enough to go without a feed in the night.

To do this her daddy had to help. We did the chair method and pick up put down. He did the first 3 nights and after that she knew she wasn't going to be fed, we then started taking it in turns. Her wake ups dropped to 1 to 2 times. We would continue with the chair and pick up put down if she stood up and left the room when she was asleep.

She was doing soooo well. We started getting 8.5 to 10.5 hour stints but early starts. Then after reading up. It said it was a habitual wake and to treat it as a night wake. The pick up put down wasn't working and she'd wake fully if it was 4 30am or after. So I left her. The first day she woke, whinged for 10mins, cried on and off for 10 mins and then fell asleep sat upright for 18 mins and then lay down and slept for another hour.

Yey!! Congratulations.....we have also had our first couple of sleep throughs in the last week and it's a fab feeling after over a year of being up every single night. I have night weaned which I think has massively helped. let's enjoy the zzz's!!!

By the third day she woke early she no longer whinged or cried or stood up for long periods, she stayed laid down and would go back off. By day 5 slept 11 hour 20 and last night 11 hours

@Vicky

Congratulations to you too 🥰🥰🥳🥳🥳

Same! Made such a difference and she doesn't stop eating now!!

You are giving me hope lasses! I’m waiting until my son decides it’s ok to eat at nursery before night weaning him but it’s good to think there could be some light at the end of the tunnel haha 💜

Avatar

How did you transfer her to her own cot after co sleeping? Mine won’t stay in the cot 😔 also did you move her not her own room for this method?

Avatar

@Deborah The childminder said my baby girl ate soooo much more since weaning at night and she does. So far today she had 3 tablespoons worth of porridge with 3ounces of cow milk, half a crumpet, a yogurt and 3 cheddars and shes not had her lunch yet. It's definitely increased her appetite for us x

@Sherina so from 6 months I started with day time naps in the cot. I started by putting her in the cot in her own room and singing and patting her bum, when she was asleep i left after 10 mins. Then, I moved on to the nighttime after a few weeks and did the same method. For the night wakes, I'd feed and put it back down. This reduced the feeds to 2-4 times. Then when she was 9 months old she ended up back in with me around 4am as I was too exhausted being back at work.

Then at 12 months old I decided to stop feeding at night and we've been doing the chair and pick up put down method since. On a good day shes asleep with 5 mins on a bad day 30 mins. X

Thank you! Yes we definitely need to stop the night time feed and hoping that will help..
Did you have to transfer her to her own room? We have the option to but not sure how he will cope 😣 he’s dealing with quite a few changes at the moment including starting nursery, mummy going back to work, beginning to walk and teething 😩

Avatar

@Sherina, yes, all in her own room. I started by putting her in her room more to get her used it. Let her play with toys in her cot. Then for naps kept it dark, put white noise on, sang and lay her down. She cried and protested but was asleep within 30 mins. I think at this age the pick up put down and chair method is more appropriate but you can build up to that. How does your baby go down for naps at the moment? X

Avatar

@Sherina start with the day time naps first in the cot, then build up to night times, still feeding through the night but in the cot. Then reduce the feeds and theb stop completely. Do you have a partner who can help? X

Avatar

ah he eats really well at home nowadays but just isn’t eating at nursery yet 😅 so I’m not wanting to change anything up at the moment until he gives in at nursery haha he will get there though I’m sure x

Avatar

Just to say congratulations! It sounds like you’ve worked hard to make this happen!
We’re still on one wake/feed - super interesting to read.

Enjoy the 😴!

Avatar

@Deborah Fair enough. Hopefully he will soon. How long has he been going for?x

Avatar

@Emma Thank you 🥰 yes it's definitely been an interesting journey as a FTM. Ive learnt so much for the next one! X

Avatar

he’s been going 7 weeks now and has only just started to try a bit of solid food there this week so hopefully won’t be too much longer! 🤞

Avatar

Thank you so much for all the advise! Yes I have a partner who is very helpful and I have a week off work so I’m going to take the opportunity to do it now! Sleep has been awful the last few weeks 😣

Avatar

@Sherina no worries. Feel free to pm if you want any more advice. I can let you know what worked for us x

Can someone pls help i keep making this post and nobody is responding

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

I feel like just a milk cow

Hi I have a 16 day old via c section, I'm a FTM never having been around babies before as I am the youngest of my household and from a small family. My husband is fantastic with our little one. But ever since I've had the baby I just feel like the only thing I'm good for is producing milk. I feel disconnected from my husband like the only reason he's around is because am producing milk. We were having some issues before the baby and we're struggling it took a while to feel like he was onboard even though he said he was from the moment we found out. I dunno if I'm feeling like a spear part because I'm lacking confidence with baby or because I feel like he wouldn't mind being a single dad. Is this postpartum hormones or something else?

How long did it take for your child’s circumcision to heal and you could give him a bath?

I’ve just been wiping him down with a fiber wash cloth but I just wanted to know from others experience on how long it took

Guilt

Does anyone else feel guilty for every little thing they do? I feel like I need to be entertaining my little one at all times. If I have to put her in the activity center to finish a task, instant guilt. In the car for too long, instant guilt. Replying to work emails instead of interacting with her, instant guilt. I know independent play is good for her but my brain thinks otherwise. Please tell me it gets better, I’d love to shower for more than 10 minutes without it feeling like the world is going to collapse.
