Anyone else partner refuse to hold baby

Anyone else’s partner refuse to
Hold baby?
My daughter’s five months old and if I pass him to her he just sits in a sulk or sits on his phone .. example this evening we went to my mums he got in from work at half 4 had a shower chilled we then set of to my mums … while there my mum had the baby so I could play with my eldest and just get five mins … about 30 mins after I took her back I asked him to hold her he literally bit my head of because I needed to clean my pumps saying I should have done it wen my mum had her .., I literally wanting a five min breather … I pump clean ever bottle do nearly all her feeds clean the house don’t even get to shower until about 10 at night don’t even get to bed until 12 once I’ve done everything. I have to sort out eldest and sort out baby to sleep on my own .. I’m exhausted I get he works but surly it’s better then this 😥
Every weekend he says he needs a day to himself where he goes out but that’s a story for another day …
He does take her for couple hours here and there so I can clean but I feel like I’m drowning or better of on my own at this point

It's his child too and he should want to spend time with her! It's a full time job with no breaks looking after a child all day! You need time for yourself too!

He sounds like a waste of oxygen to be brutal, he clearly doesn't want to hold his child which is disgusting

Avatar

This is absolutely unacceptable. He should be doing his share of the child care and housework. I would be sitting him down to explain that it is not okay. To him asking for a day to himself, you should insist on the same for you!

I say to my partner that once he’s home it should be 50/50. For example, if he works 9-5 then my shift of solo parenting is also 9-5 as it’s just as hard as his job. Then when he’s home my shift is over and we’re a partnership - although I do usually get up if LO stirs in the night just cause I hear the baby before he does.
In terms of getting a break, again it should be fair. If he gets a day away to himself EVERY WEEK then so should you, or whatever you feel you need.

I’ve explained my exhausted he said to me other day he feels it’s my job to hold baby I’ve been really struggling with the house and he said if you won’t put my clothes away what’s the point I’m guessing meaning of the relationship my mental health is so bad atm I’ve constantly having to see doctors .. I don’t even want a day to myself I just want to go do family things he goes out then doesn’t want go out on the other day cause he goes out once a week so once to spend the other day at home 🤣

Avatar

he says works harder 🤣🤣🤣 with my first the dad was never around I did it all she has massive problems health wise he begged for a kid I was kinda one and done .. he wouldn’t even get up to her anyways he would just tell me to go sleep in another room he won’t even wash her bottles I literally have to do everything obvs my first time I don’t really have anything to go off for the first couple weeks he was great until she got out the new born stage and needed entertaining more

Avatar

honesty I’ve been starting to think this when he got together he had a huge house perfect for a family I only had a two bedroom .. he then sold his house when I was pregnant and said he was guna move in with me ( we was living at his ) … he doesn’t pay any bills bar food shopping I pay everything including everything our daughter needs every month … I just need to give my head a wobble I’m miserable and just need to vent I feel like I’m being used

Avatar

I’ve tried to explain this but his just getting worse I honestly think I’m better on my own currently cleaning up after 4 people including myself on my own while looking after a baby and a disabled child 😩 he gets in from work had a shower and sits on his phone

Avatar

Tbh it sounds like he’s checked out of it all. Maybe it’s time you think about asking the hard question of whether or not he wants to be there.
Obviously I’m only an outside view but tbh it probably would be easier on your own, you’re doing all the work at home anyway but you won’t have to cook and clean for him on top of you and the kids.
We’ve all had bad days or days we wished our partner would do more but it sounds like this won’t just be a phase here.

Avatar

yeah I think that aswell we barely even chill together .. he keeps asking if my disabled daughter will get better because he says he don’t wana stay if she won’t obvs I don’t know her outcome as I’m still waiting on mri and tests but either way she my child so …. If she does or doesn’t il raise her regardless I think he don’t wana leave because he pays nothing that’s how I feel anyways …

Avatar

I just don’t understand if someone’s unhappy or checked out then just leave my only thought is I pay everything so that feels the reason he don’t go …

Avatar

I think you need to leave honestly, sounds like he's making you miserable I can bet you would be 100x happier without

Avatar

I honestly am so sorry you’re going through this.
He shouldn’t be asking questions like that about your other child, that’s disgusting imo.
You say you’re struggling with a multitude of different aspects and he’s 100% only making it worse.
You need to leave, focus on you and the kids and I can bet you’ll feel so much happier in the long run.

isn’t that what women get ?

Avatar

leave him honestly just not even worth your energy.. some men arent programmed to be fathers

PPD can affect men too - I’ve linked an interesting article below. This sounds like a lot more than that though, and like you & your children deserve better. Wishing you lots of luck.

I don't think it's ppd. Expecting you to put his clothes away or there is no point and complaining when he has to hold your baby ... 🚩🚩🚩

Is it just me or does anyone else have major anxiety when it comes to their husband taking care of themselves in that way? I never really had this problem with any other partner but now I get upset thinking he might be doing things alone. He admitted to doing it in the shower while I was 1 week pp and I broke down sobbing. Before having baby I wanted it 24/7 and still kinda do but he didn’t need it as much as I did. I always felt self conscious about it and tried to not be as needy but after having the baby it seems like he wants it more but we have no time to do anything. I feel awful for getting upset when he takes care of himself but I get so anxious and feel not good enough. I tried explaining to him how I felt but it always ends in a fight. I feel defeated and now every time he showers or is away from me I think he’s doing it… help

My in laws hate me

I had a falling out with my MIl earlier in the week and I’ve now discovered some horrible messages sent from her to my husband following this. Along the lines of that I’m controlling and that I’m from a broken home (I’m not) and that my previous mental health issues (an eating disorder that I’m 8 years recovered from) make me a certain way. She’s warned him to be careful of me. I’m so hurt, upset and angry. I can’t tell him that I’ve seen them but I don’t know what to do. We’ve been together 4 years and coming up to our first wedding anniversary with a 10 month old. The damage is done and I’ll never want anymore to do with them but how can we move forward when it is this broken and damaged. If his family now hate me. I’ve had a really tough week with my baby teething and I just want to walk out the front door and run away

Do you let your close family (mom/grandmother/sister) take your child(ren) shopping?

I'm very close with my family, and I do trust them. But everytime I let someone take my 2.5yo shopping I just get this overwhelming anxiety... I just keep imagining someone taking my daughter and I can't get it out of my head... It takes over my whole brain and I can't do anything, I end up having to doom scroll or something to take my mind off it so I can function... I don't know if this is normal or not

Am I being too sensitive?

It’s my birthday today. My husband reassured me he would let his work know in advance he needed to be working locally so he could be home at a decent time for my birthday. The plan was a day to myself & then go out for dinner with my husband.

He now isn’t due to be home until around 8pm due to working 2.5hrs away. This is all because he didn’t inform work he needed to be home at a reasonable hour, despite me reminding him multiple times this week.

I’m now unable to book my favourite restaurant in case he experiences travel delays (my anxiety means I have to always book just in case). I know this isn’t a huge issue, but I’m pregnant & I’m craving food from this particular restaurant so much (and I’ve had BAD food aversions to a lot of food)!!

I also told him I’m upset because I’m going to be alone all evening. He said I should see my friends, but I don’t have the energy to. My friends also don’t know I’m pregnant yet as we’re waiting until our 12 week scan tomorrow…so being around them would be impossible when I’m feeling rubbish!

I’ve been alone all day (which doesn’t bother me), but being alone basically most of the evening too just makes me feel rubbish. It’s even more annoying because it was completely preventable. My husband has apologised and said he didn’t think working where he was working today was going to cause problems, but I’m just mad he didn’t initially listen and speak to his office out of precaution.

Am I overreacting (maybe from pregnancy hormones lol) or would this annoy you too?

1 month old - what should we be doing daily?

My son is about 4.5 weeks old. Most days he just sleeps on my chest most of the day, which I am okay with but I don't want to miss out on anything we should be doing. My son gets overwhelmed very easily so we usually do one "activity" a day max right now (such as bath, long walk, or having visitors). We do tummy time at least every other day, try to do every day. I read to him, sing to him, and of course talk to him. Is there anything else ya'll are doing with your LOs?

Leaving the house

Hey! Would love some advice.

I am almost 8 weeks postpartum, and had a tricky delivery, being in and out the hospital for the first 3 weeks (due retained placenta after my c section- hospital f-up, and issues with shortness of breath- which was investigated and anything serious was ruled out)

My husband has been back at work since week 4 and i have not left the house. I won’t leave unless he or someone is with me. Not even for a short walk. I have been out for appointments, but always with someone.

There isn’t much to do locally and it’s not a very nice area to go for a walk in.

I have friends with babies slightly older who want to meet up outside, but that would mean driving and finding a place i feel comfortable unloading baby from the car and having somewhere i can comfortably breastfeed.

I honestly don’t know if this is normal or if i should be pushing myself more.
