My baby is so unpredictable at night..sime nights she'll go for 6 hours or even 9 hours before waking for her first feed, others its still only 3, or even 2 or 1! The unpredictability is killing me! She's 18 weeks and ebf. Anyone else have same?

Are you tracking feeds somewhere? It might not be as unpredictable as you think. If they do some big feels in the evening, they can sleep longer.

It was so hard ebf my 1st. My best advice is a feeding/ infant track app they are free. You can log every time they feed, diaper if wanted but feed & sleep schedule so you can figure out any pattern
@Katherine yes logging everything. Today she did some long feeds before bed (32 mins)but has been awake every 2 and half hours to feed for about 20 mins each time. Last night she did very similar feeds (30 mims) before bed but went 6 hours before her first wake up!

Sometimes, I'll have a couple months where my 9 month old will wake up around the same times each night, but I've stopped keeping track, and just getting up whenever he does so that I'm not annoyed if he doesn't wake up at a certain time. It's stressful for me to try to keep track. There have also been a handful of nights where he slept through the night and I was so happy, but those haven't lasted. I always got my hopes up, and then I got disappointed when he didn't sleep through the night after that. Right now, I wake up 2-3 times a night, depending on when I go to bed.
Just to add i wondered if it was too hot sometimes, but last night she slept way better than the 2 nights before when it had been a couple degrees cooler in our room
@Mei oh yes i do just get up whenever my baby cries out. It's like you say, I get my hopes up when she sleeps for longer and then so disappointed. Before she was always up every 2 to 3 hours and I found that easier in some ways. Now it's sometimes such longer stints and sometimes so much shorter and I just can't work out why

It’s always going to be unpredictable for a baby in the first year. They experience so many things that affect their sleep - teething, learning new skills like rolling or walking or clapping, they get sick, etc. I think the only thing constant with a baby is change

You're right around the 4 month sleep regression mark, so it could be that.
Or, what exactly is baby doing when they wake up in the middle of the night? Infants are very noisy sleepers and they could just be stirring between sleep cycles. If you don't immediately rush to them they might be able to go back to sleep, unless they're screaming at the top of their lungs, then go to them

brings up a very good point. Sometimes they are just noisy sleepers, if not crying then leave the baby (me saying that to you when I didn't grasp that myself till late in the game lol)
Yes i was really struggling with that originally she was such a noisy sleeper and id pick her up when she wasn't awake but now she is wide eyed and crying!

Mines over a year old and still this way 🥲
