My husband doesn’t seem to get it and I need to know if I’m overreacting or not?
So at our apartment building, there’s a daycare that has an outdoor playground that’s open to residents and basically the public (anyone that lives in the area can use it). We took our daughter (3yrs old) to the playground to get her energy out before dinner and bed and while she was playing a little girl (maybe around 6-7yrs old) came over to the playground on her bike. The little girl was riding her bike around the playground, then she went down the slide a few times, then she went and sat by herself in a corner. Our daughter noticed, came over to us and said “mommy, she looks sad”; so I said “yea? Maybe she wants to play with you. Why don’t you go ask her to play?” As our daughter was walking over to the girl, this child got up and walked away; she didn’t walk out of the playground boundaries but she looked like she went far enough that my daughter came back and said “mommy she ran away from me”. Less than 30secs later, the little girl came back and sat in the same spot that my daughter saw her sitting in looking sad.
Now for me, I’m pissed off and irritated because like I said she got up and walked off BEFORE my daughter even got to her; and idk but that just rubbed me the wrong way. Part of me doesn’t want to think “racial” but we’re black and the little girl was white. Like idk, the kids I grew up around at least waited for you to come over to them and ask before they said no.
Idk. Am I overreacting and just being an overprotective mama bear or do I have a right to be upset??

I'd be a little upset too, especially considering she didn't even wait till your LO got to her, as someone who was bullied in this way as a child I would be upset for my child especially if she cane to me and said she ran away

So many things could be at play here. The child could be very shy, autistic or any number of things.

My daughter is 5, my brother is Guatemalan. So his son is 2 & dark. It's developmentally appropriate for a 5 or 6 year old in general to act dramatic & seek attention but go hide to make a friend lol
Girls are weird. Once you've taken early ed you'd know this is very normal lol. That little girl was going through it & wanted to play cat and mouse.

To reiterate, my daughter herself began to do this. Where she's having fun then stops and sits sulking lol or drops dramatically. We've talked through it together & she says she's mad or grumpy or feeling sad or mean in the moment. So I say "aww thank you for sharing that with me baby, you can tell mama anything. But if we are feeling that way then let's not do it around our friends so they don't think we don't like them" so she will go far away but enough you can see where she is to pull this same song & dance you posted about.
That poor girl is literally just in her feels and doesn't know what she wants so she's distancing lol

Maybe she just is sad and didnt want to play with a stranger? Shes like 5 years old and you dont know her at all. Yes sounds like youre over reacting and making it about you.

Overreacting I think. She might just want to be on her own/you don't know her or what her situation is. Maybe she's been told to stay away from strangers etc...i know it was only your child but you never know
