Has anyone got any experience with a Pessary induction? I’ve had a gels one before but last week my consultant advised me they now do the Pessary first and I was wondering what this entails/how successful it is etc.. being induced in just over two weeks!🤞🏼🥰

I had the pessary with my first 2 years ago.. I found it a positive experience.. it was placed in at 10am on the Friday and my contractions started 14 hours later.
By 8am Saturday I was 3cm.
Unfortunately my body couldn’t progress past 9cm even after being out on the hormone drip..
so ended in an emergency c section. X

I had the pessary with my first 8 years ago. I found it absolutely fine (it did like to keep falling out) but eventually stayed in.. it was in at 11am ish I actually didn’t anything was gonna happen as went all day with nothing but by the evening I was in little pain and waters broke 1am I was then taken to labour ward at 7.30 ish i was 9cm I think and I had my little girl by 10.48am. She was 8lb 15.5🤣x

The pessary started contractions for me but they were too close together and too long so they took it out, but I was then ready for waters to be broken. Baby born 3 hours after waters were broken. Second baby!

I had the pessary with my first for me it bought labour on really fast and they took it out. I was pushing really quickly after . I wonder how this compared to a completely natural birth

I had the pessary with my daughter, it was inserted at 3:45am & contractions started at 10am, then my girl was born at 3:45pm! It happened very quickly x

I had the pessary with my daughter. I was in labour for three hours and pushed for 12 mins. It defo made things go fast for me but over all a positive experience x

I had two x pessary with my first. First one failed and after 24 hours I had another one which very slowly got things moving another 24 hours later. Lots of women were coming and going much quicker, I think was just me it was early and baby just was not ready!

I had the pessary with my first one. Had it inserted on 27th at around 4pm, waters broke and contractions started at 8pm. Gave birth at 2pm on 29th. So it took a while for things to progress, but i suppose the pessary did what it had to do x

I had the pessary induction with my first and turns out I am allergic so had to have an emergency c section due to myself and baby falling poorly but the midwife said it is quite rare 🥰

Thank you all so much that’s really helped me relax about it, I’m not good with new things haha. I’ve had two positive inductions so hoping this one will be just as positive🥰

The only induction I have had is getting my waters broken (no gels, no pessaries). Labour started maybe 4.5 hours later and baby was born after about 2.5 hours of labour. No drugs involved. If you wanted, you could ask your healthcare provider about having your waters broken instead of using any drugs (only if you want). I just suggest it as it is another option that you might want to consider

that can only be done if you’re already dilated 2ish cm.. in some cases the gels/pessaries are needed to shorted/soften/open the cervix! If my cervix is favourable I’ll definitely go straight to having my waters broken :) x

I had it done before I was 2cm. I had to negotiate with the staff (as they wanted me to have a C-section, and they didn’t want me to have drugs for induction because it was a VBAC - I didn’t want the drugs anyway). They said they would give me 24 hours to go into labour by myself after breaking my waters, and if it hadn’t started by then, they would do a C-section. Obviously labour started and my baby was born well before the 24 hour limit. You can definitely negotiate with the staff. There are very few hard and fast rules, and in fact, lots of things that happen in maternity care are not even evidence-based! They are driven by fear and risk aversion and a lack of belief in the adequacy of women’s bodies to function the way they are designed to function
