My husband and I have been together for 9 years now. Historically he has always chosen his postings without discussing them with me.
We had our baby boy in 2023, and I said how important it was to discuss it. Well, he said he would. But then submitted his jobs list. He told me they were all near us (Wiltshire), but since revealed that his top four are in London. He hasn’t thought about the fact that six months into it he would go to staff college for his major promotion, he hasn’t thought about what we do with our house that we own in Wiltshire, he hasn’t thought about our son and upheaving him from his nursery and then doing what?
So I guess is this normal that they just do this (just apply for whatever they fancy), or is my husband just really crap?

I my experience we discuss it and then he asks for what he wants, unless I've said outright no, and we get what we get, and sometimes I don't move.

I agree that he should have discussed this with you first. It's alot for us to just up and move, especially with kids. Could you stay where you are ? Me and my husband have been together 12 years but only lived together the last 3 as it just worked out better for us

My husband will let me know the options he has and let me say no to a location if it’s really really not going to work for us, but also needs to think about his career as with us moving so much he’s the sole provider so he does get final say🤷🏼♀️
It can be pretty crap to move lots, my little one was born in 2023 as well, and he’s now in his 3rd house, including one overseas posting, and the only saving grace is that I can say that they do adapt pretty quickly - drop me a message if you want to x

I wouldn't say that's normal , my husband and I always go through the jobs together to see the location etc . You are married and with a child , he should definitely have talked to you about this.
