How late is “too late” to change a baby’s name

Never too late. I would definitely aim to change it before they start school but kids are quick to adjust. Sometimes I consider changing my daughter’s name. It’s fine, I just don’t LOVE it but I have it tattooed on me so I definitely feel stuck 😂

Legally, you can change it for free on the birth certificate for up to a year after the baby is born. The hospital messed up our baby’s birth certificate by putting our birth years as 10 years older than we are, so that’s how I found out about it.😅

omg really? How do I go about doing that? I might not change her first but I want to change her middle name

Going through the office you originally got the certificate from (honestly forgot the name)! They have all kinds of forms for it, changing the middle name would definitely be an option :)

Never too late! I changed my son’s middle and last name when he was 5. I just wanted it done before he started school..

Okg im so glad i seen this. I thought i was the only one. I’ve been wanting to change my son’s name too. Ever since I chose it 😭. I wish I would’ve just done it. He’s only 9 months. I know I still can, but I’m just thinking about all the documents that’ll have to change.

Smart to get it done before school! Then he can learn the right spelling & such. Did he know it was getting done or did you tell him after?

I’ve done name change documentation before & it’s really not so bad! Just a form with some info about him & his life/family

He originally had his biological father‘s last name, but since that guy is not really in the picture, I went to court and got permission to change it to my last name. I told my son and he was a little upset but only because he wanted his last name to be ‘’something cool like thunderbolt or Goku’’ is what he said lmao

I changed my sons last name within a month of him being born, but you are allowed to changed it before his/ hers first birthday

Sorry, accidentally voted “never okay..” but think you can do so whenever. But would agree with everyone and would do so before they start school.

To me it'd depend on whether it is. First name , middle name or last name,

First name I'd want to have chosen and set within that first month and then not changed after.

But middle.name and last name...i feel like changing them at a later date isn't a big thing. They won't have got used to.being called by those names
