When should a child be dry through the night?

Same same same he’s 5 in sept! We tried but he just doesn’t do it. I spoke to a paediatrician who said that it just happens on its own when they’re ready..

When they reach 7, if they’re still wet then you should reach out to your GP. But they don’t worry until they’re at least 7. Sometimes it can be their hormones, or sometimes it’s just that their body doesn’t recognise that they need a wee and doesn’t wake them up.

There's a hormone that their body will create that helps them stay dry overnight and wake up if their bladder is full. It's not uncommon for it to go until around 10 without this, it's purely a developmental thing.

We tried once before my son was ready, had a long weekend and went without, and when none of the 3 nights were dry we went back to pull-ups. A few months later we tried again(just after he turned 5, around Easter, when we could hang stuff up outside to dry) and only the first night was wet, after that he's been dry with only a handful of accidents, and that's usually only been when he slept in or if he chugged a bunch of water before bed.

We made it a no shame thing, and I think that helped, as he didn't have anxiety about it. We also didn't pressure him that "big boys don't wear pull ups" or anything, or do the middle of the night wakes, as that creates a false sense of night training. If you stop the middle of the night wakes, they usually start having accidents again

My son was 5 in April and is still in pull ups over night. We've tried a few times to ditch the pull ups, but he just doesn't wake up when he needs a wee so wakes in the morning wet through

5 next month and she still wakes often with a full nappy which sometimes leaks too. She'll go a few days dry too.. She always wees before going to sleep too. Don't think she's ready to try no nappy yet

He was in pull-ups at night but these were mostly dry so we ditched them at the beginning of the summer. So far so good.

My son is the same. He's 5 in Nov and showing no signs at all of being dry at night. He still wees so much sometimes he leaks

5.5 years old. Still in nappy pants over night. 9/10 dry at night but scared to take the nappy away just in case!

My 5 year was doing so well but started to wet himself overnight so back to pull ups - sometimes he is drys some morning the nappy is full.

We also have a problem of him passing bowel movements - he refuses yo use the toilet and will only do it in a nappy… any one else same ?

Ahh I just posted about this but my son turned 5 in August and still wet through the night. Sometimes he's not but it's not consistent enough for him to be out of them! All my friends kids are dry so I was worrying but 🫣 I felt on my own but now I know I'm not!
