Bit of a rant but also need someone to tell me if I’m in the wrong.
A bit of a long one.
When me and my husband first got together, his mum was absolutely lovely. The type of mother in law that made me question why everyone else didn’t get on with their own mother in laws. However when I was pregnant it all seemed to change. It started with little things like her saying “who would want to get married while they’re pregnant.” For context me and my husband unexpectedly fell pregnant 6ish months before our wedding and so as you can imagine I had quite a bump by that point. Then a few weeks before baby was born we informed both sides of the family that we didn’t want any visitors while I was in hospital or for the first week as I had pretty bad prenatal depression and didn’t want to push myself too hard after birth. Needless to say my MIL did not like this and messaged my husband saying “after everything we’ve bought for our grandson you aren’t even going to let us enjoy the newborn phase”. I would like to add that all we received from her was a few outfits which we did tell them was much appreciated. She then proceeded to book an air BnB 5 minutes down the road from our house as soon as baby was born.
Since then it has been constant. Trying to give my baby toffee syrup when he was 2 months. Buying presents for my husband and my son and saying she didn’t think I would appreciate anything from her so she didn’t bother getting anything for me etc etc. Telling me I needed to make a “knock out” bottle for my baby to help him sleep through the night, commenting on how she lost all of her baby weight 1 month post partum and just constantly not being nice or supportive.
Come to now. My son is 10 months old. My husbands family live up north while we live down in Lincolnshire. We have been up to see them as often as possible and FaceTime every single day. As you can imagine a 6+ hour car journey isn’t exactly the easiest with a baby and with all the stops to give him time out of his seat it ends up being a lot longer then 6 hours. My son’s birthday is in October and we have said to BOTH sides of the family that we would just like it to be just us for his first birthday as we are going to take him to the aquarium and just have a simple quiet day together and do something with all the family after. My MIL has proceeded to say that she’s booked another air BnB for the Saturday, Sunday and Monday so she can “see her baby before he turns 1”. My son’s birthday is on the Tuesday.
Am I being unreasonable by not wanting this? I just feel so so defeated by her.
My husband completely backs me and sticks up for me when she says something out of line. We’ve been thinking of going no contact with his family but I feel so bad that my husband wouldn’t talk to his family anymore as the rest of them are lovely, it just seems to be my MIL?

She’s consistently pushing/overstepping boundaries that you have set. It doesn’t matter if it’s her grand baby, it’s still your child and your choices. I understand family being excited and wanting to be a part of baby’s life, but that only gets to happen if they can respect your decisions. I don’t think you’re wrong. My MIL was furious when I told her she would not be allowed in the room while I gave birth. My mom had no problem. I only wanted my husband. Set your boundaries and stick to them.
