I have been booked in for induction tomorrow/ day after due to reduced fetal movements. I am ok with induction as long as it’s for baby’s wellbeing, what I am actually worried about is that is there any particular reason for reduced movements - is she alright? This thought is keeping me awake and stressed, please share experiences if any.
Also any experience or advice on induction is welcome, they said they will use the balloon method and break waters - how soon people give birth from when the induction starts, I know its very much dependent on the body and how it reacts but still any stories are welcome
Thanks a lot!

My feeling is always, if they were really worried about the baby they wouldn’t be waiting 2 days. They’d be booking you in for a c-section immediately.

Was the baby okay during monitoring and scan?
I had an induction due to reduced movements when I was 4 days past my due date. I really wish I hadn’t - I was in hospital for a week and ultimately the induction failed and I had to have an emergency c-section. I wish I had done more research before agreeing and now realise I wouldn’t have been in hospital for a week going through various induction methods if there was a real concern for the wellbeing of my baby.
Not to scare you - ultimately me and my baby were fine and apart from a slightly traumatic birth we are both fine. It may be absolutely the right thing for you, but I was told if any mother comes in with reduced movements after 38 weeks they will recommend induction. I’d want to know what they saw during monitoring that means an induction is needed or is it hospital policy

I’ve declined induction for this reason & instead agreed to daily CTG monitoring (today will be day 3 & I plan to discuss if need to continue)
When I went in they said both CTG & Ultrasound were perfect & discussion of induction was protocol due to being 39 +5 therefore I didn’t feel it was really needed. If I’d not perceived myself a day of reduced movements & gone in then induction wouldn’t have been discussed at all.
Obviously since going in baby has moved plenty it was either me in my head or just having a quieter day (I also have anterior placenta so movements aren’t always obvious)
They also said I’ve not had any signs of early labour yet so I’m sceptical to how much an induction would change things / be a success.
I think your gut instinct comes into it a lot (this was something my community midwife said too when I contacted her to talk it through as she has been present throughout my pregnancy) & if there was major concern they would act quicker with a section

I had an induction with my daughter for reduced movement 4 years ago she was absolutely fine. If I had the information I have now back then I would’ve declined the induction. I really believe they hand out inductions like they’re giving out sweets. If it was a real concern and an emergency, then a c-section would be the safest and quickest way to get baby out.
My experience was negative. 4 days of an induction with no dilation so ended up having an elective c-section which was amazing and a positive on what was a traumatic experience for me. I think I was just over 38 weeks when I was induced. My body was absolutely not ready to give birth as was 2 weeks early, hence why the induction failed.
However I have plenty of friends that have had an induction (mostly when they’ve been over 40 weeks) and had a lovely birth. It was almost like the induction was a helping hand in speeding the labour along for them.
Good luck! X

Thanks for sharing ladies, my last scan was 20th Aug and showed everything was fine. Had my CTG yesterday and that looked fine too. The doctor suggested that since you are here for 4-5th time for reduced movements, induction is better option. I don’t have signs of labour, mostly cramps and back pain which don’t seem to have a pattern, etc. I absolutely agree that if there was actually a need they would for section. The doctor did say in the end its absolutely your call and you know the best as a mother. Honestly I am not anti-induction, but the fear of it not working is scary as many of you said its your body reacting those methods, if its not it doesn’t work. I am 39 completed so ideally is a week before my due date.

I had the balloon / hormone drip and they broke my waters, due to my baby being in an awkward position he just wasn’t processing and I couldn’t get past 3cm. I had a c-section in the end, recovery is hard but only on day two. X
