My husband just had dental surgery (implants) and his mom is the one who took him there and back because it’s an hour away from us and we have 2 under 2 and he stayed the night with her. I gave her all instructions (no spice no acid all soft smooth foods etc) come to find out she made him chunky broccoli cheddar soup with a shit ton of cayenne and hour after he got out of surgery. Then the next morning she cooks him eggs with canned chilies in them and I’m like okay WTF 🙃 anyways she brings him home and gives me his medication then tells me that the dentist prescribed a stronger pain medication so she kept the 800 mg ibuprofen at her house?? She says it’s because he can’t take them at the same time but we are both 30 and can comprehend that without giving him both at once. How should I go about basically saying “can I have all of his medications?” I just think it’s so weird and random to hold onto one of the prescriptions considering it’s only been a day since his surgery and he might not need to narcotic and it would be easier for him to swallow the one pillow vs 4 ibuprofen too.

It's illegal to have someone else's medication. You could call the cops if you wanted. But...that's something I would do because I'm pety like that

I think you should just be blunt. “We’d like all of his medication to be kept with him” - simple and a complete sentence. You shouldn’t have to explain/justify yourself & how he decides to use HIS medication.

Its his prescription and is in his name so no one else should have access to it apart from him. I know this is different but my partners mum is like it with similar stuff. Like keeping his passport so he doesn’t lose it even know we wouldn’t. It’s a bit silly is all and I’m thinking it’s something to do with either control or overprotection maybe. It is a bit weird because you are both adults. I find a lot of older people treat myself and other people who are younger but still adults like kids. It sucks but if it was me I’d ask for the medication and if she refuses or says anything else then I’d tell her we are both adults and the prescription belongs to someone else, not her
Thank you everyone! I just found it to be so random and weird and out of pocket for her. Then again we’ve never needed her for anything until now. He only had 2 of the ibuprofen before getting the other prescription today since he takes them every 8 hours before coming home. She said it so confidently about it being at her house and I’m like wait why though.. and checked with my husband once he woke up from a nap because I wanted to make sure I wasn’t hearing things since I thought that can’t be right?!

this sounds a bit like you are parenting your husband 🤣can’t he take care of his medicines and diet himself?
