My baby is 9 weeks old and currently only contact naps, which sometimes only last 20-30 min . once we put him down he wakes up immediately and seems uncomfortable. Rocked and occasionally fed to sleep, working really hard to break feed to sleep association. And it’s now taking a long time to rock to sleep. I would like to move away from the contact naps and get him to sleep in his cot desperately as its getting mentally challenging. And also encourage him to sleep without a strong association. Any advice please on what steps to take. Where do I start from to make a change , naps or bedtime ? . I also wonder if it’s too early to sleep train
Thank you

We had this problem starting at six weeks. From week 6 to 10 it was because baby was really gassy. After week 10, it was because baby started having silent reflux. She wasn’t spitting up, actively but stomach acid was irritating her throat. We knew for sure it was reflux when she went hoarse from acid irritation in her throat for a week. Many babies with mild to moderate acid reflux seek out contact naps because they are more upright than in the crib!
Our doctor at first didn’t want to prescribe reflux medication’s because baby seemed healthy and gaining weight fine. But she was only doing so because we were killing ourselves to get her more than 20 to 30 minutes of sleep at a time. Once we shared that she will not sleep in crib for more than 20 to 30m without being held, our Dr prescribed a short famotidine trial - basically baby Pepcid. Once the meds kicked in (and baby’s gut adjusted to lower stomach acid levels), sleep improved a lot for us until the four month sleep regression
