Hi mamas
My baby is 6 months old and has outgrown his next to me. I don’t feel ready to move him into his own room as he still wakes a lot in the night and is breast fed so it’s much easier for him to be close to me.
I was going to get a travel cot but I’ve read online it’s not safe to use one too often as the mattresses aren’t as supportive as a proper cot. His main cot in his nursery wouldn’t fit in our room.
Has anyone used a travel cot for a few months or had the same issues as me?! Would love any opinions/tips xxx

I don’t use a travel cot as a main cot - however if your worried about the mattress element then you can buy a proper mattress for your travel cot. I did this when my now almost 4 year old was little as the bottom of travel cots is just so uncomfy for them. So bought that for when we’re away and he slept so much better as was like his mattress at home :)

I use a you and me crib from Smyths and I love it so much room for baby and wasn’t expensive . Xxx

After the same thing! I had planned on a travel cot as she slept well in it on holiday. I didnt known they arent advised. Putting a proper mattress in makes total sense
do you have a link for this? Or do you mean a next to me crib?

Ah. These are suitable up to about 6 months. This is what I am trying to move my baby out of.

Same issue here. My boy outgrew his next to me at 4 months, his big boy crib would be too big for our bedroom, so we switched to a travel cot and brought an additional mattress from Amazon (£20). It’s been about 3 weeks now and he can self settle a lot better than he did previously as he has space to fully stretch out ☺️

Does anyone have a mattress recommendation for their travel cot?

I’ve seen online you can also buy mini cots. https://amzn.eu/d/fPnOPYn

I had a mini crib for my baby because her room was small and I thought it’d be fine until we moved her into a bigger room. She ended up sleeping like a starfish so I needed to upgrade her bed a bit earlier. I currently use a travel cot with a proper mattress and it’s fine. I have a fold up travel mattress, but defo wouldn’t use that long term.

This is the mattress we’ve got

You can buy proper mattresses for travel cots

I’ve done exactly this for the very same reasons as you! I bought a proper mattress to go into the travel cot, and now have her in a travel cot next to my bed.
I bought a red kite travel cot, because finding a mattress that fit any other cot seemed near impossible!!
Thanks everyone for your replies super helpful 🩵🩵🩵

Hope this helps 🤍

oh nooo!! I looked at so many different cots, at first I thought I was just overly tired and being silly but as the day got on I realised it wasn’t me and it was impossible to find matching mattresses and travel cots!! Not sure why they make it so bloody difficult!! Xx
