My nanny keeps complaining about being cooped up in our house and wants to take the baby out while I'm working from home. Is this normal? She doesn't drive and wants me to take her and the baby out to the museum. I take the baby out to the museum and the park and stuff as soon as I'm done with work. But then she's off work too, so she obviously doesn't come with us. She says it's not enriching that they do nothing during the day? I'm so confused about this. I work 7 to 3 M-F. Am I just neglecting my kid by not taking them out during my lunch? If the baby went to daycare, they would be at the same spot every day. I told her she could go for a walk around the neighborhood with the baby. I get that our closest park is a 30 min walk, and I can do it, but she doesn't feel fit enough to. I need to work, and I pay her to watch the baby. Why do I need to come up with activities for her to do with the baby? Should I be?

how old is the baby?

I used to nanny and I always went out with the kids. Change of scenery is nice. If it’s a baby then a walk to the neighborhood park is good enough. If it’s a walking baby like toddler then going to the library is normal. I would take nanny kids to activities but I also think he can’t stop your work to take her. She either needs To drive or take child to places that’s walking distance

Being isolated at your house is not the same as working at a daycare

I mean I can understand from both perspectives, like I understand feeling cooped up in the house , but I also understand how you might feel like it might be weird because some it might be normalized for them to. Stay at home

I don’t think it’s a weird request I would also feel cooped up and it is good for baby to get out of the house. It’s just unfortunate she doesn’t have a license to drive.

This is so weird to me

even in daycare they try to take the babies on walks/change the scenery but it’s also not your job to facilitate that! she can come up with activities that you both are comfortable with

Super weird, she shouldn’t be asking you for requests when you’re paying her to watch the baby while you work. She needs to figure it out herself and plan activities and walks, I’d get a new nanny for Les

if you’re taking your kid to the park or out to do activities at 3 when you’re off then you’re baby isn’t cooped up all day. your nanny feels cooped up all day. different things. I understand her viewpoint as a former nanny myself but if she’s worried about the kids development then knowing you do that stuff after you’re off should alleviate that stress which is why I say it’s your nanny’s feelings not your baby’s needs. you’ve gotta work to pay yours and nanny’s bills and it’s her fault for not having a license or being “fit enough” to walk for 30 min. she’s just a complainer. tell her if she gets her license then you’d be okay with them taking day adventures but her lack of a license is what’s restricting her not you, you have to work period if she wants to be paid. or just tell her as the mom you want to enjoy that stuff with baby and you do at 3 when the nanny is off bc it’s YALLS bonding time. if you feel she has a point maybe get a new nanny that drives/ fit to handle 30m walks

How old is baby? As an ex-nanny I would never ask the parents to stop working to take me somewhere, like tf? If I was bored with just playing with the kids I would make our own plans like paint or sensory bins, why can’t she figure out something? It’s her job. You do things with your baby when you’re not at work, doesn’t matter if she’s with you or not.
As a parent I’d be looking for a new nanny who can drive and I would trust with my kid in the car

I find it weird or at the very least not her place. Maybe suggest a walk around the neighborhood or to a local park.
You're paying her so should be doing what you want, but that's my opinion

I don’t think you need to change anything if you’re content. You’re paying her to be there & watch your child. If you want them to be at home while you’re working then that’s what they do cause you’re paying her. You don’t need to accommodate anything for a grown adult especially if you do things w your child on your own.

I understand

Personally have been on both sides but as a nanny myself I would not be asking for parents to take us somewhere unless the parents asked. Otherwise I think 7-3 is okay to be at home with baby and once both are done then mom does stuff with baby. I personally don’t think you need to be coming up with activities that should be her job during that time. I don’t ever expect parents to come up with activities or take us anywhere. The only time I ask parents anything is if I’m doing sensory or projects and they might get a little messy if that’s okay!

Why can’t she go out to they yard or in a stroller walk? It’s not your responsibility to take her out with you.

She needs to get her license if she as a nanny wants to take the kids out. Wanting to take them out is normal. Asking the employer to drive her there is NOT. That’s her prerogative that’s her responsibility she’s being paid for that time

Yea super super weird the nanny is supposed to stay home an watch the kids

Your nanny is being ridiculous - you hired her to watch your baby, not to be her personal chauffeur so she can have field trips on your dime.
She's complaining about doing the literal job you're paying her for while you're trying to work, and expecting you to stop working to drive her around because she "doesn't feel fit enough" to walk to a park? That's not your problem to solve.
Tell her she can find indoor activities, play with toys, read books, or take that neighborhood walk - if she needs constant entertainment and field trips to do her job, she's not the right fit for your family.
