Feel like I’m tearing my hair out. My little girl has been a bit poorly recently and is definitely teething but we’re now on day 4 of her completely refusing milk (bottle fed) unless I dreamfeed her. She eats really well and is drinking water fine throughout the day. Enough wet nappies for me not to fear dehydration. Has anyone else experienced bottle aversion like this? Any tips on what you did to overcome it?
I’ve tried different bottles, different brand of milk, being in a dim room, sitting her upright, cool teething toys before offering bottle. Feel like it’s never ending 😵💫
She then will drink 6oz at 10pm for a dream feed and around 3am will wake up and drink? I’m confuuuuused!
Thank you! x

Could’ve written this myself!! My girl had a viral thing a week or so ago and it took her a few days to get back to being interested again. We actually dropped a bottle and stopped our dream feed, so she is now having 3 x 210ml (never finished a bottle though), but she’s having 500ml a day. My HV said that around 500ml is good as she’s started weaning and having 3 meals a day but if you’re struggling to get that much into her to just offer yogurts, cheese etc to make up for calcium and iron. Maybe she just needs some time to adjust but fingers crossed she’s back to her usual self for you soon - it’s so stressful when they throw curveballs like this at you! X

I remember my son doing this. I basically remember looking up advice and deciding to not panic (it was hard as well as he was only 4 months).
I basically just kept offering in different environments with distraction/ no distraction etc. I offered at his hungriest times and at more calm times too.
I have no idea how but after a while of turning his head he started drinking again… I do think it was about a month though.
If your baby is weaning though I agree with the above advice. Just make sure they are having milk in porridge/ weetabix and yoghurt and they’ll be ok. It feels hard but honestly my little boy went down to one bottle by 10 months in the night and my dietician told me it was fine!
