My baby doesn’t want to nap and has been refusing his second nap. Whenever he refuses his seconds nap, he has a broken nights sleep and up for 1-3 hours middle of the night.
He has always been really easy to put to sleep.
Not sure if anyone has advice or this is just a vent but we both had turns crying between 3-5am last night 😂🫠

Have you considered dropping to 1 long nap?

My baby is about to turn 11 months and is down to one longer nap in the middle of the day. Sending love x

We’ve been taking turns crying during my son’s middle of the night parties for more than a month. He just turned 10 months and we might have put those unforgettable moments behind us 🙏. Here’s what I did (not sure if all or any of these worked or he just outgrew it but I definitely had to do several changes).
1. Brought back bottles during the day. He only had bottles before bedtime and when he woke up hungry through the night (doctor recommended). Now - I give him AM before each of the two naps.
2. Started giving him food/snack every 2 hours.
3. Made sure whenever he goes down for his second nap, to wake him up by 4:15.
4. Bedtime is 7:45-8:00 no matter what. Bathing ritual starts 7:30 at the absolute latest.
5. I wake him up 7:30 at the latest (had to do it once. He just wakes up 11h after the time the fell asleep).
6. Wake windows that work for him now: 3h, 3.5h, 3.75 h. If I put him down for NS even 15 mins later, he wakes up for the day an hour earlier.
Total nap time 2.5-2.7 h.

Our son (almost 11 months) was fighting his second nap and I turned to chatGPT for help. It suggested we lengthen our first wake window to 2.5 - 3 hours (we had it as 2 hours). Have you tried shortening your first wake window a bit to see if it makes a difference to second nap (or would that just make your first nap more difficult?). Just an idea! I'd never thought the first wake window could impact the second nap but it definitely does! Helped us so just sharing as anything to help someone else xx

No my little girl is still on 2 but her first wake window is only 2.5 hours usually. As Elise said above, have you tried shortening the first wake window? It may help build sleep pressure enough to make the second nap easier x
