So here’s the situation:
A work colleague was running her mouth this morning over how excited she was for the birth of her new grandchild, but how she’s already fallen out with her Son, the baby’s father.
According to her he is royally pissed off with her for announcing the birth of her grandchild to Facebook before they, the parents, had a chance to.
Apparently they were planning leaving it a couple more days, until they saw the post and then began getting messages of congratulations from family and friends who were unaware yet.
She doesn’t seem to think she’s done anything wrong and is now annoyed at her Son for being annoyed with her for what she did. He says she’s stolen their thunder, their moment, and ruined a special time for them. She is only thinking of herself and can’t see what the issue is.
I told her her, after hearing this, that it was totally unacceptable to do what she did and I gotta side with her Son.
..well she didn’t like this response, thinking I was going to back her up.
Was I too harsh? Or is she the a-hole here?

If she was told not to post it on social media then she’s definitely an AH. However. If there was no conversation about letting them announce first. Then this is a live and learn moment for the new parents. If you have expectations of how something is going to go you need to voice that.

My MIL did this for my wedding and the birth announcement for my son. People wonder why I can’t stand her

My MIL did this!
People in general should be asking before they post your kids on social media!
They deffo shouldn’t be announcing your birth, engagement, etc. I feel like that should be obvious…
Once they’ve made the post, with the parents permission post away!

I think it depends on if she was asked not to post on social media. If she didn’t know, maybe not the ah but also common sense would tell you it’s the parents post to make. If she was asked not to and did it anyway, 100% ah.

I had to tell my MIL numerous times about not announcing I was pregnant and when I had the baby until we had. Ended up making sure if she tagged me or my bf(her son) in anything on fb, we had to approve it. Thankfully she didn’t but as soon as we messaged to say that we’ve announced it, she had a status posted within seconds. She obviously had got it all ready and was literally waiting
