My midwife has just told me they don’t reccomend swaddling due to a high risk of babies overheating. I’ve literally just bought my daughter a swaddle yesterday and last night was the first night I’ve had a decent sleep since she was born. I’m now worried incase she overheats and the swaddle isn’t safe for her. She hasn’t been settling in her crib/moses basket at all and only settled last night because she was in the swaddle. My room temp is always between 16-20 degrees and her swaddle is 2.5 tog. Should I still swaddle her? I didn’t know they didn’t recommend it until she told Me earlier so I’m now In 2 minds on what to do.

I’ve always swaddled my children, it definitely helped with better sleep!

Take a look at the website above, it has some good information about swaddling x

We swaddled both of ours, as long as it’s done properly, you’re following safe sleep and you’re taking the swaddle into account for layers it’s fine.

I think it’s when they mean the old way of swaddling maybe? If it’s the ones like love to dream, you should be fine

If you’re using a swaddle bag like love to dream or tommee tippee (as the comment above says) you will be fine, we checked these with our midwife before leaving the hospital for the same reason and they said as long as it’s the correct size according to baby’s weight then it’s absolutely fine x

If you’re worried keep a room thermometer in baby’s bedroom to make sure the rooms a safe temperature
