Have to cap at least one of my baby’s 2 naps or bedtime is superrrrr late and disrupts night sleep.
She will sleep 1.5-2hours per nap not capped.
I had been capping both so that they were equal but she was soo grumpy so yesterday I let her sleep on in the morning and she took a 2hour nap. Then I gave her a 40min cap napped in late afternoon. Seemed to work better 🤷♀️
Curious what everyone else does? Don’t know which nap will be better to drop when it comes to 1nap transition.

I usually cap the first one so he wakes up at 10:30 - that way he has a decent nap pre school pick up as he seems to wake up at school pick up time regardless of when he went to sleep. So on weekdays his nap schedule is: leave for school run c8:20, he falls asleep in push chair and I wake him up at 10:30 or earlier if we need to get in the car, then his next nap is usually 1:45/2 until 3:15 ish - I take him out in the pushchair c1:30/1:45 to get him to sleep so that I can just roll him out at pick up time. He only naps for about 30 mins at a time in the cot so this way he gets decent sleep.

They say it’s better to cap the first nap. My boys first nap then da to be his longest though. I typically don’t cap it unless he’s went down later so he’s up around the same time meaning his later nap is at a decent time. When you move to 1 nap, you would typically adjust it so that it’ll be in the middle of the day so it’s not first thing. My daughter went to 1 nap around 13 months and we tried to do it around 11/12 ish but it was rough keeping her up till then initially. So sometimes it would be early but she was always so tired at nights so was mostly asleep before 7 x

Tbh I usually cap both if baby is still asleep. 1.5 hour in morning 1 hour afternoon (no later than 4 for 7.30 bedtime)

I have to cap both naps in order to make sure that she has enough awake time during the day so that she sleeps well at night l. It sucks at first but she got used to it and is now fine when we wake her up

Only time I cap a nap is if it’s past 4pm
So she has freedom to sleep as long as she likes unless she won’t go down until like 4pm then I only let her have 30 mins as it’s bed for 7/7:30
Rarely does she actually sleep longer than 30mins to 1.5 hours so I don’t see the stress x

I personally cap both, he would be nocturnal if he had his way. I’ve probably capped both since 5 months old 😬
He’s prone to split nights so I have to do it to protect nights

Low sleep needs baby and any more than 2 hours day sleep causes split nights and multiple wakes. I technically cap both naps but only in the case of wake time so we’ve moved to a more routine based sleep pattern so she usually sleeps 10:30-11:30 and 15:00-16:00. I was waking her at nap end times even if she went down late and about a week of that consistent routine she’s now doing that every day- much less grumpy during the day too because she’s getting good sleep over 24 hours

Whatever works best for your baby and your lifestyle I would say. With my first son it was the second nap he dropped when he transitioned to one nap from two, he lengthened his morning nap and it gradually got later to a midday nap (then an afternoon nap as he got older). He did a shorter wake window in the morning to in the afternoon because that is what worked for him. My second baby is firmly two shorter naps and just going with the flow currently.

Try both and see what works for you during the day.
