I am in my first trimester, very early still (4 weeks + 4) with my first pregnancy. I love fitness and usually go to the gym 4 - 6 times a week for quite heavy workouts or long cardio sessions. I am thinking i’ll need to reduce this, would love any tips or advice anyone has 🥰🤍

Hi! Congrats. I was where you were not long ago (am 16 weeks now)& whilst I’m not a doctor I can tell you from both my midwife’s , consultant’s and also my own research that it’s totally fine if you keep it up if you feel fine in yourself. General rule is not to do anything new and ofc no contact sports! If you’re anything like me, you’ll notice a lot of breathlessness doing what you’d categorise as previously “easy” stuff (I literally was gassed doing body weight squats at one point!) so will need to eg run slower or just need to take longer recoveries between sets. Hopefully that’s helpful but if not any Qs I’m happy to chat 💕✨ X

Ps. Forgot a couple of things!
1) I used to always push myself and if there was eg a challenge or a finisher, I’d pride myself on maxing out. Changing this mindset for pregnancy is super hard but super important
2) I stopped doing weighted abs as soon as I found out pivoted my core workouts to pregnancy safe exercises (bird dogs, heel slides etc. Planks are fine if you can ensure you can do it without doming/bulging) X

You absolutely do NOT need to reduce anything, especially in your first trimester. If you’re lucky enough and not experiencing any horrible pregnancy symptoms like sickness or nausea and you are feeling ok in yourself, just keep going 💪🏼

I’m almost 38 weeks and have continued exercising throughout pregnancy ( modifications in particular for abs ). I have definitely found the last week a lot harder but have just either reduced weights/ no weights now and am just listening to my body

I’ve heard 1st trimester 👉🏻 Safe to push, stay as you would as your body allows.
2nd 👉🏻 Maintain your weights, tension etc, go steady.
3rd 👉🏻 Time to reduce weights, pull back a little bit.
I’m not sure how accurate that is but like you, I’m super early in my first trimester and plan to train as consistently as I currently to (4x a week) within what my body will allow ☺️ x
