How do you feel when your toddler has tantrums?

I honestly feel sorry for my toddler when he is so tired that it causes him to feel overwhelmed and have a tantrum. I feel terrible and also like there's a lot of unwanted attention drawn to us. When he was crying loudly and intensely today and being carried today someone walking by said empathetically we've all been there" and another person says "ridiculous" and carried on walking, that last comment wasn't kind.

He's 17 months old I'm wondering if this is normal for his stage of development or if this is unusual and when kids move past this stage?

It's really hard to arrange meet ups that last more than 30 minutes without this happening.

I totally get it, at times he's bored, tired or hungry at some point and this is the only way he knows how to communicate at this stage, but it still feels draining, what do you do to feel less drained in these situations when they won't go in the pram, just want to be held and they are screaming for more than 20 minutes?

(He is fine after food and a nap, all smiles again.)

Normal part of development. I feel ours have got worse she’s turned 2😂
We’re now in the stage of she wants to do what she wants and if she can’t do that, she’ll boot off.

People shouldn’t feel the need to stick their 2 pence in. Really grates on me. Children are children, there shouldn’t be a social standard that they should be quiet when outside.
Personally I would have stopped the person who said “ridiculous”. In my opinion what’s ridiculous is that grown adults think children shouldn’t be expressing their emotions. Especially when they don’t have the vocab of an adult 🥲

Mine started throwing tantrums out of nowhere around when he turned two. The tantrums getting into the car seat lasted for maybe 2-3 months but felt like a year. It’s all about bodily autonomy- they can’t tell you but they want to be the ones to put on or take off their own clothes. To choose when to go inside. Once you can figure out what they are likely to want to do or choose for themselves it’s a lot easier to manage and predict and stop the tantrums before they start. Now getting into the car unless I’m in a rush is letting my 2 year old climb in and then letting him buckle the top by himself. It’s letting him choose which shoes and pants to wear and if he wants to put them on or take them off on his own. You just have to build in extra time for everything.

this is exactly what I was going to say
This age is “I know what I like and what I don’t want” and often giving an option is the way to make them feel in control
“We are going outside now do you want to hold mamas hand and walk to the car or do you want mama to carry you?” Even if their vocab is limited at this age to reply they can point or show you the key is to get the options in prior to a kick off because there’s often no going back once a tantrum ensues

Oh yes and the person who negatively commented
You are the ridiculous one sticking your nose in and commenting on a baby’s behaviour - who is the emotionally immature one here ? So rude

If I ever get a comment outside I loudly reply “that’s so rude” or “some people are so rude”

One time baby was upset and tired so cried in a coffee shop so I got an old woman staring at me
I calmly got my cover out and BF my then 9 month old and she actually tutted at me ! I said “I’m sorry can I help you ? Do we know eachother???” She went bright red

I actually find it very easy to disconnect from my toddler's tantrums, idk why. I think it has something to do with knowing that the key is to always keep my cool and remain calm. Tantrums are emotional dysregulation, and it's my job, as the parent, to be my child's regulation when she is lost. That means staying calm and in control. I focus on the situation - what can I do to help? Anything? If I can't, then I do my best to just be there and comfort her. If she's overtired or hungry, I try to accomodate that. If she just doesn't like a rule that I've made, I remind her it's ok to not like the rules and to be mad, but they don't change.

Talking a lot can actually make tantrums worse - they don't understand or hear you when they are dysregulated. They may just need emotional connection - physical presence and comfort. You don't have to say much at all. And ignore any negative comments - people either get it or they don't. Toddlers are going to cry. I used to get mildly irritated,, now I get it.

When did you circumcise your baby?
If you DID NOT or DO NOT have a circumcised son DO NOT comment this post is not for you!

Did you wait a certain amount of time or have it done immediately?
Again respectfully, this is only for the parents who choose to do so.
opinions about how not necessary it is will not be appropriate for this post. Thank you in advance. 🩵

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Vanilla extract

Has anyone used alcohol free vanilla in their babies formal to help them drink?
I’m 100% sure my baby refuses her bottles as she doesn’t like the taste of it!

Just anxious to try it, don’t want her to get used to it and then refuse bottles again after two weeks of using (correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve read you use it for 2 weeks max)

TIA 🙂

Sex post C section

Hi ladies I’m 4 weeks 5 days postpartum and I had a C section. I’m not bleeding properly anymore just some brownish discharge stuff that starts on and off. I’d like to do the deed with my partner; is it okay to do so or shall I wait the full 6 weeks. I feel up for it but also worried because the advice is 6-8 weeks.

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

I feel like just a milk cow

Hi I have a 16 day old via c section, I'm a FTM never having been around babies before as I am the youngest of my household and from a small family. My husband is fantastic with our little one. But ever since I've had the baby I just feel like the only thing I'm good for is producing milk. I feel disconnected from my husband like the only reason he's around is because am producing milk. We were having some issues before the baby and we're struggling it took a while to feel like he was onboard even though he said he was from the moment we found out. I dunno if I'm feeling like a spear part because I'm lacking confidence with baby or because I feel like he wouldn't mind being a single dad. Is this postpartum hormones or something else?
