Low Pap A

Has anyone ever had this before in pregnancy? I’m currently 21 weeks pregnant and I only had my midwife appointment last week in which I was told about having low pap A and I only found this out because I asked if my results had come back from the Down’s syndrome test and that’s where they mentioned it that it was picked up at my 12 week scan. I’d never heard of it or been told anything by the sonographer when I had the scan and have been told to take aspirin which should have been taken since that scan! I’m not happy with them but last Friday I had a phone asking me to go for a scan, again something I’d not been told about and this was to check the arteries, I had the scan today and I asked if everything was ok and she said she thinks so and that she needs to look at my report and work out the findings within the centile graph. I got my report and it just says I’ve to go back for growth scan at 32 weeks! I’m just very confused about it all and don’t understand why I was never told about it! TIA

Hiya, I had low papp-a and told to have asprin too, not sure the sonographer would of know as it's picked up with the down syndrome blood test. My baby was perfect size 6.10lbs healthy! I always thought of the growth scans as a good thing as they keep an extra eye on you plus you see the baby more! Hope that helps x

The same thing happened with me, found out late so didnt start aspirin until around 20 weeks. Its to do with possible disruption to placenta blood flow , so I had serial scans - scans more often than average to monitor growth. Everything was ok and baby is fine xxx

You'll also be under consultant led care rather just only midwife

I also had low papp-a and I panicked when I found out.
They checked baby’s arteries at the 20
week scan and I took aspirin from about 13/14 weeks until 36 weeks.
I had extra scans every couple of months and loved the chance to see bay more than usual!
My baby was born at 38 weeks weight 6lbs5oz so wouldn’t have been very small if we made it full term.
The first I heard about it was a letter after the DS blood test and then a follow up chat with my midwife at our next appointment. Hope that’s helpful x

Also have low pap A and took aspirin until 36 weeks (though not consistently 🫠)
Have enjoyed having the additional growth scans for reassurance, I actually think I'd panick if I wasn't having this many scans which is apparently the norm for most. Im 38+4 baby growing well and normal size and got my last scan in 2 days

Also the midwife told me that not all health boards in the UK even prescribe aspirin for it as its low risk of anything being wrong with the baby, it's just a possibility of being small, being born preterm etc, so they'd rather take extra precaution. So I'd say dont worry so much and enjoy seeing your baby extra :)

I also panicked when I found out I had low Papp A in my first pregnancy & googled the shit out of it - which didn’t help 🤣. You’ll just have extra growth scans and checking blood flow through the cord. I actually loved having the extra scans! My baby was small but still healthy and I didn’t have low papp A in my second pregnancy! Good luck, you’ll be fine ☺️

Thank you all for your lovely messages, so comforting to know other people who have been through the same thing! This is my fourth pregnancy and I’d never heard of it until now all 3 of my babies have been pretty small the 3rd was 7lbs 3oz so that was my biggest baby so far! I’m so glad to have further scans anyway so I can see him more and for reassurance just hopefully everything will be ok with the placenta 🙏🏼

C section or natural?

I am a control freak and thinking c section is the least stressful route for me and baby… less complications during labour etc. whilst acknowledging recovering can be hard.
If it could be guaranteed no tearing or complications then I would opt for natural and kind of want to experience the feeling.
Then again could plan and go either way 😂 arghh!
Anyone else in this predicament?

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

Midwife check

Can someone remind me when the midwife visits you at home? Is it the day after you’re discharged? And is that the same on the weekend or do they not visit then? Thanks!
