Mommy shoulder

Does anyone have what's known as Mommy shoulder?
"Mom shoulder" is a common repetitive strain injury causing pain, stiffness, and inflammation in the shoulders, neck, and upper back due to lifting, carrying children, and nursing. Symptoms often include rounded shoulders, tight traps, and radiating pain. Relief involves strengthening the back, stretching, proper posture, and using carriers.

I feel like I might have it but am wanting to know what others have experienced and how they dealt with it. I've been in a lot of pain for 3 days now, went to the ER and wasn't given any answers, still hasn't gone away but it has lessened. It's affecting me being able to take care of my daughter 😞

I get this and it gets so bad it turns into tension headaches and migraines. Using a massaging neck heating pad is super helpful and making sure I take time to stretch regularly. When its bad I find that taking some pain meds, laying down with an ice pack on the back of my neck, and pinching the traps seems to help release the tension. A few years ago it was really bad and I had tension headaches daily that never seemed to end. I did a few months of dry needling with regular massages and that was a huge help.

Strength training! Stuff like shrugs and overhead presses can work wonders, rest in between sessions, ergonomic carriers, maybe a woven wrap back carry!

Daily yoga and all body stretching and a remedial deep tissue massage every ~8w. I also go chiro ~12w (he wants me there more often but I find 3m is perfect for me) to get my back cracked and realignment. Motherhood is a great time to take up yoga/Pilates, for the reasons you stated in your post, our back and shoulders and posture takes a huge hit and we need to to maintain it yoga/Pilates/stretching/massage regularly. I did yoga and Pilates for about 18m Pp and then I slowly switched over to salsa lessons which that is great maintenance for me coz it forces us to keep our core engaged and for posture.

3rd c-section

Hi Ladies. I’ll be having my 3rd c section later this year. For others who’ve had 3 sections. What gestation did they make you go to with the 3rd? Thank you 🙏

Scared of long induction process

Mums! I’m 41+3 today according to NHS, but from my extremely type A tracking from December last year know I can only possibly be 40+4. My midwife has supported this throughout my pregnancy and has advocated for me to take it at my body’s pace and take the EDD with a pinch of salt.

I’ve been having signs of early labour - cramps, regular Braxton hicks, even a small show today following my second unsuccessful sweep - but I’m feeling SO pressured into being induced. It’s like the second you turn 40 weeks they jump on you to be induced and I just don’t get it.

More context:

My midwife told me today that there is potential to be on the ward with three other mums who will also be going through the induction process themselves and waiting for labour to start for up to 4 to 5 days (!!!), and that’s not even including the labour/recovery itself. I had hoped for spontaneous labour, water birth and limited time in the hospital, so hearing this, along with the failed sweep has been disheartening to say the least. Since my EDD came and went this week I have been having much stronger signs, and following the first sweep on Thursday when they said I wasn’t dilated but that the cervix was soft, to today being told the same but that it is now open shows me that there are clear signs my body is getting ready to do something.

I’ve been low risk this entire pregnancy, and will continue to have monitoring etc in line with my trust’s guidance, but following a meeting with a consultant at the hospital, the only real reason they could give for wanting to induce me is 1) because it’s protocol, and 2) in case the slots get taken up and I have to wait longer if I do decide to book one… her exact words… neither of which seem like valid reasons to me. The risks to me and baby are minimal at this point, as they have been all along, and I wonder why are we doubting that the body will be able to go into spontaneous labour after it has been trusted to grow an entire human from scratch for the past 40 weeks?

I do have a slot scheduled for 42 weeks, but feel so upset and unsettled at the prospect of forcing my body to go through a potentially lengthy process and wait on a hospital ward with no creature comforts just because it’s their ‘protocol’.

Sorry for the long post, any advice at all? 😓

Perineal massage

Genuine question - is the perineal massage really worth doing? I’m 33 weeks and debating on buying the oil and wand to do the stretch as I don’t reach down there comfortably anymore.

Does it actually work?
