The bounce back ideology is damaging to women

The whole idea that after pregnancy women can bounce back to their old bodies, or go back to the way they were or feel like themselves again is absolute rubbish. If the brain goes through the biggest neurological rewiring ever observed, then what are we trying to go back to? Isn’t it more about discovering who you are now, not trying to get back to an old version of yourself that doesn’t exist anymore. ?

Yes and no.

I agree the whole rushing to look like you did prebaby is unrealistic and unhealthy. It’s not helped by celebrities and influencers pushing it through unhealthy means like surgery and detoxes either. It can be unhealthy mentally and physically for some, fuelled by societal pressure, but it’s also a good thing for many.

For me, I didn’t put a timeframe on getting back into my old clothes but I did aim to get back to my pre baby body. I wasn’t fit and healthy post baby, I was overweight and it was affecting my parenting and lifestyle. Yes I had changed mentally into a mum but I needed to change physically into a healthier mum.

Some people can gain their pre pregnancy figure back easier than others but there’s also a toxic culture of those who shame women who do chose to prioritise their health instead of just being mum 24/7.

Yes and no. If I would have stayed at the weight I was after both deliveries, even 3 months PP, I would have been unhealthy. I think people should do whatever makes them happy and shouldn’t feel pressure to be something they’re not. BUT in order to feel good about myself, be healthy and set good examples for my kids, I wanted to “bounce back”.

I think for most people theres no such thing. Maybe for young moms maybeee they can look close to what they did pre baby but anyone over 28 is just not gonna look the same nor should they. We need to stop obsessing with looking like we did before pregnancy. Its unhealthy. And unnecessary. Theres way too much pressure on women altogether.

The “bounce back” is not only about looks for me it’s about strength. We lose so much muscle mass, our core is f*kd, out pelvic floor is f*kd leading to some women leaking pee while coughing/sneezing/jumping/laughing for years after, our back is weak, our posture is out the window and we lose like an inch of where our shoulders used to be from all the heaviness of the belly and crouching down to BF and picking up babies etc. for me it’s not about the weight like yes I’d love to fit into my old cute clothes again but I wanna gain my strength back that I lost through pregnancy and birth, I felt so WEAK. I was out of breathe easily, my stamina gone. I wanna be healthy for me and my kids, I wanna run and jump and crawl in the playcentre mazes, have half of their energy. That’s why I was motivated to bounce back. It wasn’t for society it was for me.

I agree with you ladies, I think it’s important to be healthy and be in shape. I think you can go back to pre pregnancy weight and fitness but I’m talking size and body shape wise I don’t know how realistic that is. I’ve had people tell me I don’t even look like I had a baby. I was depressed and not eating so dropped alot of weight and fast. It’s glorified in society to look exactly the same as you did before and people feel pressured to take drastic measures to do so. I think it’s important to exercise to be healthy, not too much about fitting into my jeans ( which I was obsessive about in the first few months due to society pressure).

I think it’s harder for women who were super fit before having kids and then they were “derailed” for their fitness because of kids.
I wasn’t super fit before and didn’t really feel any pressure to bounce back but I also don’t have people around me who emphasize weight loss or anything. Even when I did lose weight I looked at my old clothes and realized that I don’t like them anymore anyway. I dressed in very tight youthful clothes, I had a whole closet of clothes I would wear to clubs/bars. Didn’t need those anymore. Got rid of it all.

C section vs Induction - advice please!

So I’m really conflicted - basically, after finding out at 34 weeks my pregnancy is classed as high risk due to previous SGA baby (6lbs at full term), after having growth scans the past two weeks I’ve been told this baby is on 97th centile and I’ll either need an induction or a planned section, and I really don’t know what to do. My first labour was horrific, I was induced due to PROM and ended up in theatre with a forceps delivery, had sepsis, an episiotomy and lost a lot of blood - but my recovery was fairly fine. So now having to decide whether to go through that again, with potential complications of a ‘big’ baby (I’m still not sure I trust the growth scans?) I don’t know if to chose an elective section instead, but that of course comes with its own risks and longer recovery, and with a wild 3 year old and a dog I feel like it would be even more difficult! Has anyone been through anything similar, what did you decide and how did it go? Thanks!

First birthday invite at nursery

My daughter received her first birthday invite yesterday at nursery since she started a couple months ago (😭🥹😭 I was pretty emotional lol)
But I’ve also got a 1 year old, as my daughter is my first and I’ve got no idea who the mum is etc but how do I go about it with my son. Does he come with me? Or do I get childcare? Or should o just simply text the mum?

Me as a mum wouldn’t mind if he came if it was my daughter’s party but I don’t want to be rude!

Period like Cramps!

I posted a week ago just about having some period like cramps, every few days. I’m 37 weeks + 2, last night around 8pm I had an intense pain in my back for 1-2 minutes and could’ve cried at the pain🤣 it then vanished, went to bed and woke up 4 times through the night with what felt like period cramping all across my pelvis, this is the most and consistent I’ve had it. I haven’t lost my mucus plug, no blood, water hasn’t broken! Could this be a sign that labour is close? Or is this just what happens? Thank you 🩷

Absolutely done

I am 39+ 3 and i feel absolutely drained with this pregnancy. My first pregnancy wasn’t as bad as this one. I had my first at 38 weeks on the dot. This baby is too comfortable up in there. I can’t remember the last time i slept properly. I’m waking up everyday in agony. Atp i am just done and can’t wait to have this baby🥲. Does anyone else feel the same way or is it just me. I’ve been doing the most to try and get labour started but no luck. Looks like it isn’t happening anytime soon😭

Do I have a tall baby?

I’m a first time mum to my 7 week old baby boy! At birth he measured 55cm tall and is now measuring at 66cm. He’s growing out of 0-3m due to his length. My health visitor commented on how long he is. I’m struggling to gage how tall other 7 week olds are lol just wondered if he’s tall compared to babies his age? 😅
