Jw how ppl have navigated this type of distant relative. And if its actually necessary to explain it. Daddy wont be home some of tomorrow and grandma has been out sick with covid anyway so they wont be around much tomorrow anyway so 4 yo wont notice much
Im wondering to leave deeper discussions about death for when he asks more about his grandad that died when he was 1.5 yo or when someone significant passes, where he will feel the loss
Or is it easier to explain when there is little grief as he is not close to this great aunt? He is an intelligent kid but i never know what discussions are going to make him overthink or get a lil anxious or which he will just accept at face value

There are some fantastic books at the libraries about death and grief aimed at different age groups xx

Gosh, thats a hard one.. part of me thinks its good to have an awareness so that when someone more impactful to him or even a pet passes he already gets the concept but the other part of me thinks hes still so young and you dont want his mind wondering into worry about other people he loves a lot passing.
I dont think theres a right or a wrong answer to it. Maybe discuss with your partner when hes back and decide together?
Im trying to think back to my own experineces, i remember being about 5 when my grans mum died who i knew but maybe only saw once a year and i think i was sad when they told me but i was very quickly ok about it. I was always a very empathetic caring little girl so, i reckon he will be fine about who it is its just more the concept of death i get. I feel like i knew about death early from watching lion king (i still cry when i watch it)
Either way, im really sorry for your loss and i hope YOU are ok x

Yes. The book Lifetimes is great for this. It breaks it down into something as simple as “her lifetime ended and grandma is sad that she won’t get to spend time with her anymore.”

Yes i would explain (I have a few times since we've gone to funerals and have lost some pets) conversation about my daughter's great great grandpa at his funeral...
Daughter "who is that?"
Me "your great great grandpa"
D "what happened"
M "he passed away"
D "why"
M "he grew up and had a looooooooong long long looong life, then he got really tired and decided it was his time to go."
D "oh..did i get to see him?"
M "no baby you didnt get to see him."
D "well I want to meet him"
M "thats a great idea! Let's go talk to ______. ______ can tell us stories about him. Plus we can see all kinds of pictures."

Yes but at that age they can be very matter of fact about death which can seem a bit blunt to someone that is grieving. They don’t really understand it or the fact it’s permanent,

When my mum died, my sister said to her (then) three year old that Nanna was a star in the sky, she would point to it and said that's where Nanna is now so he won't see her again.
He's older now so he understands a lot more what it means and handles it very well for his age.

It depends about what do you think happen when someone die and why?

I was talking about my uncle to my 4 year old (he died 10 years ago), and she asked why she never met him. I told her he was dead. She just said "oh, ok" and went about her business. Outside of talking about killing bugs/ dead bugs, that was the first time I mentioned death. She hasn't said anything else on the subject

NEVER EVER say went to sleep, sleeping, anything about sleep!!!!!
A 6 year old girl was told “he passed in his sleep” and she didn’t let the house sleep for like a month!!!

When my nan died we didn’t say anything even though we saw her a lot she never really mentioned it but on the odd occasion she did we just said oh we can’t see great nanny any more and then she moved on
My husband works nights and sometimes he’s gone all day and all night so it’s just me and my eight month old. No one comes to visit even though his family lives close by and I’m just exhausted. He doesn’t sleep well overnight so I’m just constantly sleep deprived and now he is crawling and constantly just wants to get into everything that he shouldn’t have quite literally anything a fan and end table the dog bowls so if I put him in his playpen, I feel bad he’s in the playpen for too long, but then I let him out and he’s constantly just going for every single thing he shouldn’t have
I guess I’m just curious what everyone does when they’re by themselves with their baby lately. I feel like I’m just getting depressed and I’m not cut out for this. I’m constantly just stressed and tired and also feel guilty that I get frustrated because he’s just a baby he’s also constantly pulling and wanting to stand on me and pinching me all of the time I’m touched out by the end of the day.
And to make it worse by two dogs who I loved very very much as soon as he was born I just can’t stand them the barking the getting in the way it’s all just getting to be too much and I know I should be grateful for everything I have, but exhausted

My husband and I got married 5 days ago. We have been together for almost 5 years and have an 18 month old. 3 days ago he went through my phone and saw texts from the first year of our relationship with my ex. I continued communication with him and met up with him for drinks one night. Nothing happened between us. I cut communication off that same year. My now husband wants nothing to do with me. I’m absolutely gutted that a younger immature version of myself has ruined my marriage 3 days in. I don’t know what to do.
I love my husband and my family and I will do absolutely anything to save us. My husband had already said he wants nothing to do with me and doesn’t see this relationship worth saving because of it. I have no one to talk to about this because I’m embarrassed that we just had everyone together to celebrate our marriage and now less than a week later I’m talking about the end of it.
My behavior back then did not carry over into my relationship further. I said goodbye to my past and went into a beautiful relationship of learning, growth and love with my now husband. How do I come back from this especially for our daughter? she doesn’t deserve this, she doesn’t deserve to see me crying everyday and her dad absent in another room. The 3 of us were so close, did everything together now he can’t even look at me. I’m sick.

We were supposed to be going to my nan’s today for her birthday.
My sister messaged this morning to say her kid was a bit poorly when they woke up this morning so we decided not to go.
Reason being, we don’t like putting our daughter in front of illnesses knowingly because she suffers enough with what she catches from nursery (she’s 25 months). This week all week I’ve avoided going into the office knowing a colleague of mine has been ill. Also
this month we lost over £200 in our pay from unpaid time off because our kid couldn’t go to nursery so we had to stay home with her (who was made sick by their kid because they lied to us and said she didn’t have anything wrong when she had a stomach bug). Our family don’t help us out, not even with babysitting.
Our family are now treating us like the bad guys because we refused to go. They changed their minds about them being poorly after giving their kid medicine which was also after we said we weren’t going.
Were we in the wrong to protect our child and our finances? We’re really struggling because of losing that money in this months pay and I have a car MOT coming soon where I’ve already had to forego the servicing because we can’t afford it. We’ve taken loads of hits in pay that we just can’t afford to do anymore. But also my depression and anxiety have really taken a toll this week so I’m on heightened alert for anything or anyone making my child sick.

I feel like such a bad mum lately 😢
I am 12 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 and I am absolutely exhausted all day everyday
I have no energy to look after my 16 month old, im constantly having to say no to getting up and playing with her as I feel sick and just want to lay down on the sofa.
Ive recently only started to get help from my MIL after having a conversation with her about not helping. My daughter goes to nursery 1 day a week for 3 hours which is good for her.
I just want to cry everyday and have this pregnancy be over already as ive had enough.
I dont get out the house much as there isnt anything in my area to do and publis transport is unreliable
My partner works long hours so hes gone from 6am til 7pm almost everyday.
Also our daughter now sleeps in our bed and doesnt go to sleep til we do as she hates her cot and cries if you try to put her in there at night so I dont get a break from her all day and evening.
I just dont know what to do anymore

Is it just me being silly or is this ridiculous, basically my boyfriend has always gone out with his mates on a night out dead early and I mean EARLY I’m talking like 2pm/3pm until the early hours of 3am and I had this argument with him that we have an almost four month old baby girl and that he should start thinking that it’s a ridiculous time to go out and he agrees it’s long but his mates have always liked doing that. This by all means doesn’t mean I have a problem with him seeing his mates or going out but when you have a baby who’s still tiny doesn’t it just seem absolutely absurd??? Like when can I ever do that?? I don’t do at all, I’m probably being stupid but it’s just bothering me as he’s out now and I’m at home with our baby.

My husband is on mission to make his Art career happen. It’s something that been in the background since I’ve known him 10 years. His paid work has never been very consistent and we live pay check to pay check. It’s been stressful, now especially after two pregnancies with very little village and muscle tension that ignored until recently. I go to physical therapy now thank god. But he’s not making any money and it forces me to ask my dad for money, who doesn’t understand why my husband doesn’t have a proper job and thinks his entrepreneurial journey is destined to fail or at least is irresponsible to not be making money. My husband even wants him to invest, my husband hasn’t save anything to start this business bc he has to buy us food, as he should be. That’s some background.
Because of the stress of having to be a “good wife” , told me to sit back and watch and not stress. While I wonder if I’ll have dinner, but my dad steps up everyday. Meanwhile I have a 3 year old and 1 year old, also pregnant with our unexpected third baby. I don’t want sex right now, I’m not saying never, but not whenever he “needs”. I don’t get any time to myself as a Sahm. He’s so pissy, says then let him get sex somewhere else, I said sure, bc he’s bluffing or it’s going to be his own demise. It’s not my job to ignore my physical and emotional feelings to make him feel good, when he’s not going out of his way to make me feel good. He even said let’s be intimate as a way to give me time from the kids and make me feel good. That’s not me-time at all, that’s draining.
I didn’t say I hate him or will never have sex again, I’m just saying if you’re fully focused on yourself then you’re clearly ignoring me all the time. I’m conserving energy bc no more help is coming or atleast I don’t see it coming. He even uses doing chores and being a dad to say he’s doing so much for me, but those are literally his basic responsibilities, which he stopped doing mostly since I denied him sex the other day. He’s like a shark in the water trying to rip open my cage bc he’s hungry. He’s being delusional right?
