I had the glucose tolerance test last week as my baby is measuring 2 weeks bigger than expected. I’ve had an appointment through to start monitoring my blood sugar. I’ve felt positive throughout the whole pregnancy so far but this has really knocked me. I’m not good with needles and I’m worried about what I will and won’t be able to eat. Is anyone else going through the same process?

I've not got gestational diabetes but I'm a diabetes specialist nurse who works with people gestational diabetes. It can be a lot of checking glucose levels but its really not that bad once you've done it a few times. You should have regular appointments with a diabetes specialist nurse and diabetes dietician who can help tailor youre diet. Diabetes UK is also a really good resource. Most people who ask these questions and pay attention are fine and only need to check glucose levels or take a metformin if it can't be controlled with diet alone. Hope it all goes well and you have good support 💕

I've got it! I remember feeling that way during my first pregnancy about being nervous regarding monitoring and diet but second pregnancy got it again and it's honestly not as much of a worry as I convinced myself it was the first time round 🫶🏻 Diet changes is mostly swapping from like 1/2 carbs, 1/4 protein & 1/4 veggies to 1/2 protein & 1/4 carbs. Maybe switching carbs to wholemeal/granary varieties of pasta/rice/bread etc. I've still been able to have a sweet treat here and there when craving it and the "needles" in the lancets really aren't bad, you can set it to 1 to start with to see how easily it'll prick your fingers (I use a 2 with pressure or 3 without pushing it). Any further questions, I'm happy to try and help

I have diagnostic since 8 weeks
Still diet control
I had it in my previous pregnancy too
I was also nervous first time but now I’m fine

I got it I know the feeling. It has put damper on my mood all you can do is monitor ypur blood sugar and make alternatives to everyday food like reduced sugar baked beans, have wholegrain bread, less carbs and have enough protein and take metformin if prescribed. Booking an appointment with a dietitian has really helped as they can help advise on portions. I also take inositol supplements as it helps deal with gestation diabetes too. I buy mine in powder form at Holland and Barrett. I also eat an orange a day as it contains natural inositol as well but a small portion.

This probably isn’t the best response but my test results got mixed up a few years ago and they told me I didn’t have it when I did. I carried on as normal and was eating all sorts of crap! Scary really.
2 DAYS before I gave birth I was seeing a consultant (for other issues) and they found out I had gestational diabetes the whole time. My baby was born at almost 10lbs via emergency c section 🙃 None of the scans picked up how big he was and that’s why I take everything with a pinch of salt.
I suppose I’m trying to say there’s obviously levels to it but I survived it without controlling it or even knowing it so you’ll be absolutely fine! 🥰
Thank you everyone, all of your comments have been helpful 🥰
So I went for a gender scan today at exactly 18 weeks pregnant. The baby was soo active, it wouldn't sit still at all. So it made it very difficult and awkward to guess it's gender. It looked like a GIRL at first when we looked between the legs, as it was flat. But then on a side view, we could see something cropping up from the hips above the legs. So it looked like a BOY! The sonographer said she was unable to tell, so we rebooked the scan in 2 weeks. Is this normal? Has anyone else had instances where they couldn't find the gender? ...
Also I've added pictures of my baby scans from 8 week (Top), 12 weeks (Middle) and the 18 weeks (Bottom) scans for you to please guess if you can identify what you think it'll be? I'm sooo curious!

Hey Guys! I’m 36 weeks and had my growth scan yesterday. Consultant advised that baby is transverse. Have to go back for presentation scan at 37 weeks and if no change, will have be admitted to hospital until a planned C-Section as they don’t want to risk natural labour. Anyone else been through something similar?
Thanks!

I’m currently 35 weeks with twins, the first picture was from 3 days ago, now today my bump is the one on the right. I feel very flat but have had a lot of pelvic pressure last night and today. The drop never happened in my previous pregnancy. Has anyone had the same ?x

So for my first baby, I ended up getting preeclampsia so I got induced which ended up an emergency C-section for my second. I was given the option to do vaginal birth, or C-section at first I was fairly confident in my decision of choosing a C-section for familiarity however, the closer I got to my scheduled appointment it just felt wrong, I was getting more nervous and sad that I would be missing out on the opportunity to actually try to have a vaginal birth. I’d already taken the week off prior to my scheduled surgery to help prepare myself and would have loved to have just waited it out till he came on his own
however, I had a strict two months of leave time so if I were to have pushed past my appointment date to try and wait for vaginal birth, I would’ve been losing out on the time with my baby before I went back to work waiting for him to come. And the familiarity i thought I would have, I realized things were gonna be completely different. I was rushed in to my first C-section and while laboring, I was basically being prepped for it. My epidural already placed and catheter put in. For my scheduled C-section, I’d have to arrive two hours early and go through all the prep. By the time I arrived to the hospital, I was practically terrified for my surgery. I had the shakes before even going into surgery and even worse while in surgery I practically threw up the whole time. Thankfully, I was able to get skin to skin contact with my baby this time around during surgery instead of being knocked out at the end like last time, but I feel this time around was more traumatic than my emergency C-section, which left me with really bad postpartum and because I was so shut down from my surgery it took me almost 3 weeks to feel connected to my baby and I’ll never get that time back.

I am 16 days post elective c section and bleeding stopped around day 7. Today (day 16pp) I have suddenly started bleeding again. Its quite bright but no clots or any other warning signs currently but has made me worry slightly. Any one else experience this?
