ok so what are we doing when the toddlers don’t know what to do with their anger and they start hitting? obviously hitting someone else is NOT okay but if they’re hitting a table or a couch or something of the sort, are we letting this be ok? my son (just over 2.5yo) will slam his hand down on the table when he’s mad for being told no and i’m not sure if i need to correct this?

Teach him what to do with his anger?
In my house my little has permission to punch a pillow, scream into a pillow and she has a large inflatable bluey punching toy that she can hit.
She also comes to me for help taking deep breaths to calm down when her feelings are too big alone.
So: you teach him deep breathing. You teach him the words for his feelings so he can name them instead of screaming. Do hot chocolate breathing (Google it.)
Teach him whatever thing you’re okay with him doing in your house to express his anger. I dont care if my kid stomps, for example.
Anyway good luck

I'd look into incorporating sensory input activities and emotional intelligence practice to your daily routine.
At this age it's going to be very simple...
Children require co-regulation. So it's your job to teach him what's safe to do in moments of calm (not when he's angry or frustrated). I've never had an issue with my boys punching a pillow but we also incorporate a lot of physical activities that they now do instead of just punching to release anger - shaking, jumping, wall pushes, etc.

that’s exactly how i taught mine not to hit people. when he was very little and hitting i would immediately stop him, demonstrate gentle hands on myself and get him to copy, and then find the nearest inanimate object and demonstrate hitting that and get him to copy and repeat. i dont think there’s anything wrong with hitting inanimate objects or other ways of getting out the physical build up of anger. i think turning undesirable actions into a structured similar activity that doesn’t hurt people is the best way of getting them to stop doing those things.
the only thing i would note is not hitting objects that could break or hurt the person hitting or don’t belong to you. so that would be like walls, other people’s toys, and yes i would probably try to redirect from the table because that could hurt his hand. i would just calmly say like “i see you’re angry and want to hit but the table can hurt you, how about hit this pillow?” also work on deep breaths. i wish i started that sooner.

thanks guys! i’ve done the deep breaths and regulating for when he’s crying but makes sense to do the same with anger. i tell him he can be mad so he knows the feeling is ok but now it’s more correcting the way he acts about it. thanks! sorry if i seemed stupid i’m also dealing with some serious pregnancy brain right now 😵💫😂
My baby has been having this on his gum for weeks now and the gp said it’s nothing but I’m so worried.
Has ever come across this before? I’m soo worried. Not sure if it’s affecting his feeding.. but he eats ok.

Hi, throughout duration of my pregnancy the husband has been rude and inconsiderate. He has forgotten my birthday and our anniversary.
I’m not sure if obedience school is an option at this age because he is 40 now and beyond the point of training age.
Any tips or helpful tricks to mediate his autonomy at this time ?

Hey all,
This is just a rant I apologise in advance and I’m posting anonymously because I’m carrying so much shame for this but I need to say it out loud… being a mama is tough!!!!
Doing it solo since my LO was 6 weeks old and I’ve got so many positives happening right now, a new home I’m decorating and getting ready to move into with my little boy, life should feel lighter. But the to do list, with an 8, almost 9 month old who’s been battling a cold for a week, sleepless nights, grumpy days, I’m burnt out.
I’ve tried talking to my own mum but she questions how I’m going to cope being on my own with him (we are currently at my parents) and when I try to talk to her when I get a little overwhelmed, she responds in ways that highlight why I shouldn’t be struggling and it makes me shut down and say less.
Please tell me I’m not alone having hard days? I’m like a bottle of pop constantly being shook with nowhere to put it, so I’m posting this on here whilst crying on the toilet. 🤦🏼♀️
Please be gentle.

Are you guys genuinely giving your baby your undivided attention all day?? My baby is fine with independent play on his mat so often times I let him just play (obviously I’m nearby paying attention) but if he’s not crying I just let him be. I use this time to clean whatever room I’m in or just relax for a second. Is that bad?? For 5 months he’s where he should be milestone wise I think. Rolling both ways, rocking back and forth getting ready to crawl, sits up mostly unsupported.. I just feel guilty like should I be playing with him all day?? Or is independent play a good skill to have?? And yes I do play with him, and if he’s crying I pick him up and comfort him and play with him in my lap.
