Maternity care is expensive

Ranting because how the heck do we do this. I’m pregnant with my second, and when I was pregnant with my first we were just as financially stressed. My husbands insurance is like $650 a month with like a $12000 deductible. And like we cannot afford that out of pocket cost even if it DOES get reimbursed. So then we’re like okay we will go with a birthing center and self pay, still $800 a month but every payment goes toward the total balance due. With my first we had massive amounts of help from family for multiple months of payments and so were indebted to like every one of our family members. We don’t want to go through this second pregnancy continuing to drain our families because we can’t afford it. And everyone is like “apply for assistance” like okay but according to every resource I look into I am not eligible due to our household income.
So how do people pay for maternity care and labor? Because every avenue I go down seems impossible to do within our budget. Like do families just go into massive debt? How are we affording this? It’s absolutely stressing me out.

You’d be surprised what assistance you can get when pregnant. Pregnancy changes the income eligibility atleast in my state.

Also if you want to do it at a hospital you can call and ask them how much it is to self pay and a lot of thw times the care, hospital stay, and birthing are at a massive discount versus going through insurance

Typically, at least in the US medicaid will cover you the entirety of your pregnancy and you and the baby will continue to have medicaid until their first birthday

Maybe look for income based maternity clinic. Also look at your local hospitals and go ahead and apply for financial assistance for the year. They may do sliding scale or even cut down your medical bill by 80%. I know somone who bill for birth was 30,000 and they paid 800 due to applying. That was with similar insurance number as yours.

It’s been a long time ago but when I was pregnant with my first 17yrs ago & my ex husband had insurance through WM for both of us, a woman he worked with told him they qualified for supplemental insurance through the state bc the insurance they had was so lacking in the women’s health, she wasn’t wrong, I’d pay $20 deductible to see any other doctor/specialist but $2-300 to see my OB/GYN. I was 7 months when I decided it was worth a try to apply & didn’t have to pay for anything else except a couple Rx, $100 of a birthing class & $100 for an extra US, bc I had already paid $2k OOP, yeah they adjusted for the entire pregnancy, it saved me like $20k. We barely even qualified for WIC, which is a way higher income level than anything else, we deff didn’t qualify for snap or healthcare, we both worked decent-ish lower middle class jobs, had a mortgage, had 2 credit cards w/$50k+ limits, not that maxed wouldn’t=bankruptcy, but still, we qualified & didn’t go into medical debt.

Struggling

I’m sorry for the sad post but I’m honestly struggling so much and I feel so alone. I’ve tried to explain how I feel to my husband and mum but they don’t seem to get it. I have a 13 month old and I’m 4 months pregnant. I’m tired all the time, not happy in my marriage, put on so much weight and have absolutely no desire to do things. I’ve tried looking for a counsellor to talk to and just on the waitlist but I need to know it gets better. I feel like I’m stuck in a dark hole just pretending I’m okay to everyone my friends and family and work colleagues but I’m really really not.

In love with someone else

I’ve been with my partner for 3 years and we have a 2 year old. I got pregnant only 2 months after meeting him, we said let’s make it work. We have an ok relationship but there’s no emotional connection. He think it’s ok but I’ve expressed I’m not happy.

Recently an ex from 7 years ago just told me he’s still in love with me and he wants to peruse this again. I wasn’t expecting to feel all the things that I’m feeling and now I can’t stop thinking about the possibility of us together.

But I have a two year old. I feel like it’s selfish to even think about these things because I’d be taking away his home, his dad his normal. Do I just stay for the sake of my child? I mean my partner isn’t a horrible person we just aren’t in love or do I leave and explore this new connection with my ex? I’m so confused

Mirena coil

I haven’t been on contraception for 10 years, but never fell pregnant until we started trying. I am 8 weeks post partum and debating having the mirena coil fitted. Can anyone share their experiences please?
