When you drop off your kids anywhere, eg grandparents house, do you sneak out or do you tell them bye. My son cries a lot when I leave him so I sneak out when he’s distracted. Sometimes he cries when he realizes I’m gone. Is this bad, should I try something else?

the daycare director encouraged me to slip away when my son was distracted on his first day and someone recently told me it's too hard for them to process a drawn out goodbye at this age 🤷♀️ I think it's a little hard for him and me no matter how I do it

I think it's better to have a quick goodbye. I read something at one point about how if they get used to you disappearing without saying anything then they're more on edge because they never know when you'll leave again.

I agree with Cassea above, I always say goodbye short and calm like “Mommy’s leaving, everything’s okay, I’ll be back.” Honestly, I think you should try that instead of sneaking out. It might cause a few tears at first but it helps them understand and builds trust instead of confusing them.
