Should I let my soon to be 7 year old (in 3 weeks) read the Harry Potter series?

Picked up my son from school and he asked to go to the library to check out the first book of the series.

Side note, I do not think these books are demonic or satanic. So if that’s you’re opinion, I respect it but I am not worried about that 😅

As long as he understands the words I dont see anything wrong with it. Im re-reading them and there isnt anything raunchy or inappropriate in them.

You know him best! The books get really dark towards the end though (just like the movies)

I read them at 8/9 as that’s when the HP books were coming out, I would have read them earlier if they were available. It was so amazing to be able to read a huge book at that age too. Good luck to him x

I remember reading Animorphs around that age, which gets a whole lot darker... I think he'll be ok. I did tend to read above my age level though. 😅

If a child wants to read, let them! That’s amazing, let them read everything they desire. It’s becoming so rare that children read as much. If you’re worried about it shaping their lives don’t they learn discernment better after reading and maturing and learning even more.

They’re so good! Yes! They are dark towards the end as others have said. Growing up we were only allowed to read one a year and it was torture 😂 If he’s a big reader or will get disappointed if he has to stop, maybe hold off a couple years until you’re comfortable with him reading them all at once

We got it for our then 8year old but she’s not read it! She’s more into dork diaries and diary of a wimpy kid.

My 7 year old read the 1st in the series at 6 & then we let her watch the movie! She's now reading Chamber of secrets and is getting a little scared in parts! She's on chapter 10 & if it gets to scary, I'll see if she wants to stop reading it. She's looking forward to watching the movie after she finishes though! I keep reminding her that trolls, house elfs do not exist & its all fiction. She has a classmate who is on the 4th book at the moment.

Yes. I listened to the first book when I was 7/8 and really enjoyed it. Its why I was so exciting for the movie like the year after i listened to the book. The first book is what got my sister into reading. She was a late reader due to dyslexia and it inspired her to read more

My oldest just turned 9 and I bought her the series for her birthday. We are reading Little House on the Prairie together right now. Once we finish that we will start Harry Potter. It’ll take us a long time to get through it, we read 5ish pages 4 nights a week before bed. I’ve never read the books only seen the movies so I’m excited.

As long as he knows is only fiction and you think (as you know him best) he can understand that is not true, then I would say yes. I watched the first harry potter movie when I was I think 5/6 years old and the only scary part for me was the troll but mostly because it was visual and I’m very empathetic so for me it was like being there. It all depends on the kid 🤷🏼‍♀️

I can’t apologize

Anytime my husband is angry at me , he uses words like fool, stupid, I regret marrying u etc . Even when I’m wrong I can’t apologize cos I get hurt and he in turn gets mad that I don’t take accountability. For context 90% of our Arguments is about the house being tidy.

Am I being petty

I swear I've woken up on the wrong side of the bed which doesn't help this scenario.
But am I being petty for being severely pissed off at my partner.
He puts the bottles on the steriliser. Didn't fill up or put the kettle on. Didn't fill the power pots ready.
Asked him to shut the blinds in my eldest room as you could see right in. Come back from shop they were still open.
Hasn't loaded in dishwasher in over a week.

I literally been feeling like a single mother these days. Like I know he is working more than usual but cumon he was already half prepping the bottles.

Is my boyfriend too traditional or selfish?

He says he gives 8 hours of his life to his job M-F and he’s tired of coming home to do things he doesn’t want to/be inconvenienced. He’s talking about watching our son while I go to the food pantry. I can’t take our son because it’s a lot for me as I’m 8 months pregnant. My son is 10 months pregnant.

He was raised in a traditional home where his mom would do everything for him and his dad would work. He never did the dishes, cooked, or did his own laundry. I know he expects the same from me. I am trying my best to give him that since I’m a SAHM but i’m not used to doing that. In my eyes we should be 50/50 or he could help out a little more.

We also have two pets that he barely takes care of. I’m stuck cleaning our cat’s litter box (even though i shouldn’t while pregnant) or else it won’t get done.

Coincidence or Retaliation? My MIL Is the CEO and I Just Got Demoted

My MIL is a bitch😂 sorry, just had to start off with that. Okay, now that I got that out 😂 let me give y’all the backstory because I genuinely need to know if I’m being dramatic or if this is as fucked up as it feels.

My MIL is the CEO of the company I work for. My husband also works there, he’s a Coordinator, and I was working as an Administrative Assistant/Peer Support Specialist. My husband and his mom have not been on speaking terms since July. I’m not going to dump the entire family tree on y’all 😂. Just know things between them have been BAD. We were also supposed to go to Thailand with her, but because of the issues between her and my husband, that trip basically got taken away from us. She went without us and came back literally ONE DAY before our gender reveal. She was not invited.

Now, before anybody says, “Well, that’s her son’s mom, how could you not invite her?” there is a LOT more to that situation, and at this point, my husband and I decided we were not going to pretend everything was fine just because it was a family event. We did invite some of our coworkers, though. Fast forward to Tuesday. I get called in and told that I’m being demoted. The reason I was given?

Budget cuts.

Okay… sucks, but whatever. I’m trying to be an adult about it. I’m pregnant, I have bills, and obviously getting demoted is stressful, but if the company is cutting the budget, then I can at least understand that it’s a business decision.

Except…

My husband and like 7 other ppl at the company got promoted the same week!! And then I was supposed to work until Friday in the office, but she sends another coworker of mine to tell me that she wants me gone the same day so my co worker can move in my space. How unprofessional!! Eventually my husband talked to his mom, and suddenly there were apparently MULTIPLE reasons for my demotion that had nothing to do with budget cuts. She allegedly told him that I had said I couldn’t lift certain items because I’m pregnant. NEVER SAID THAT! She brought up paperwork that supposedly wasn’t turned in. NEVER DID THAT! And then there was a customer complaint over the phone. BUT WAS CONFIRMED TO NOT BE ME! It was another employee.

Honestly, the part that bothers me the most isn’t even the demotion itself. It’s the possibility that something personal happening between my husband and his mother could have crossed over into my job. Because if you don’t like your son right now, that’s between y’all. If you’re mad that your son’s wife didn’t invite you to her gender reveal, okay. But my paycheck??? LEAVE MY PAYCHECK OUT OF IT. 😂

Am I in the wrong

Long story short my mother in law lives abroad and has no boundaries will call me 3/4/5 times a day for the past 3 years since my daughter is born. My husband works all day so she calls me. She calls me either really early in the morning , at my babies nap time or after nap time when I’m trying to prepare lunch etc. I’ve explained to her before she needs to stop calling at nap time because then I look like the bi**h for ignoring her calls. If I text her and say sorry my daughter is sleeping right now she will reply that’s ok I want to speak to you but I’m trying to have a 30 min break to myself to shower or eat or clean whatever … She still continues to call and if I don’t answer she will keep answering. Then I get anxiety to find time to call her even if I’m busy or out so that I don’t look bad ignoring her then she will sit on the phone hardly saying anything just repeating my daughters name calling her on the phone and dealing with her customers(she runs her own buisness) all weekend she will be on FaceTime to my husband like 5 times a day and on holiday etc. A couple days ago she called during nap time and I didn’t answer I’ve been really exhausted lately. She seems to think because I’m a stay at home mum that I just sit around relaxing all day. Anyways I went about my day and after nap time and getting my housework done I went for a coffee with my daughter and my husband met us after work. We are all happy enjoying our coffee date and his mom is already on the phone and turns around to me and goes “I’ve called you three times today why havnt you answered” I explained to her that I’ve been super tired . I felt like she done it to shine a light on me and put me on the spot and bait me out to my husband. After the call I said to my husband she has no right to question me and I don’t have to explain myself to her and who is she to question me. His answer is always “you know how she is” but I felt like she done it maliciously to cause trouble with my husband and I and I didn’t like it. Anyways he got really mad o said she has no right to question me and we have had these arguments before she has no understanding of personal space or normal boundaries. My husband got really mad I said “who is she to question me” and hasn’t spoke to me for 4 days. Which is really extreme we never ever go this long without squashing and argument the hour later. He said I should respect his mum and all this and that. I am really hurt how far he’s taking this and said that whenever he says anything about my family I try to understand his point of view and support him before always jumping in the defensive.
