Does this seem right to you? Private school separating kids that pay tuition and those that go for free in two different classrooms..

We qualify for the PreK grant (free school) in my state for my 4 yr old. We toured a private preschool yesterday that accepts the grant. They told me they have two groups of 4 year olds. In one class are the kids whose parents pay the full tuition (about $23k a year) and in the other class are the low income kids who have the free grant. Does this seem like discrimination to you? She claimed it’s the exact same curriculum, that they just keep them separate for “audit reasons.”

In the Us, private schools became popular as a way to continue segregation. So I am not surprised

that’s insane.

That’s crazy.
My kid goes to a private school. We pay tuition and I literally have no idea at all who doesn’t, but they do offer scholarships and stuff because I remember they mentioned it when we toured.
That is absolutely discrimination

not at all surprised, it's the system.. ofc it wldnt let ur kids be in the same class as the parents who pay the full tuition

it's a sad reality

It’s the Goddard School if that makes any difference

Avatar

No, it doesn't sound "normal" nor acceptable.

Very likely there are other reasons why they do this. Like the other parents complained, resources are different or other.

This is quite embarrassing.

Schools should aim to integrate and mix the whole student body.

Don't they mix the groups in the following year?

I find it disgusting that they’re basically putting a target on the backs of kids who have less money. Kids are cruel and bully for any little thing. Why does everyone need to know who is paying the full tuition vs someone who could be having a grant to attend school? Nobody needs to know anyone else’s financial situations.

I have seen schools that had a separate group for new students. The purpose was to provide additional academic support to get them to the same level.

I would dig more into the differences and see if they are not breaching the law. Ther must be another sensible reason to do this.

Avatar

Audit reasons. Bollocks. Us and them more like.

Avatar

It’s gross but I am not surprised at all.

It’s a private school. They can literally do whatever they want. The teachers (in the US) dont even have to be certified.

Avatar

Very odd.
The Goddard schools in my area don’t seem to work with state funding to my knowledge, nothing about the local locations website says they accept financial assistance programs.

There’s other daycares / pre schools that are private facilities that do work with state funding & financial assistance programs! They have different classes that are dependent upon the child’s level of potty training skills, not parents financial standing

I taught Pre-Kindergarten. State funded Pre-K is free and everyone qualifies regardless of income on a first come-first served basis, but not every school has the space or are approved for multiple classes. The state funded class has to follow a strict curriculum/guidance from the state and they can lose funding. Only kids on State Pre-K can be in same class. Private school classes are paid and follow a different curriculum like going public vs private school.

Teachers for State funded Pre-K have to certified, with at-least a bachelor’s in early childhood. Even their assistants have to have a certification. Private pre-k, does not need to be certified. The public kids also have to meet certain readiness requirements that private school kids don’t have to. You honestly should want the students separated. ❤️

Me and my partner have known each other since I was 12 he was 14 we recently had a baby together. I’m two months postpartum I feel like ever since I got pregnant all we ever do is argue and we’ve never really been like this. I would definitely consider him my other half my best friend too I honestly don’t know what it is but me and this man cannot see eye to eye anymore

Lunch/dinner and pressure

I make my 1 year olds food everyday from scratch. I don’t give him anything pre-made from the supermarket and make everything myself from scratch. He won’t even be allowed mayonnaise or any sauces like that. Am I putting too much pressure on myself not giving him anything from the supermarket or is this normal?

Feeling so awkward

So im 38wks pregnant and have 2yr old with my husband.

I dont want to miss out on time spent with him so have ended up going along to a soft play today with them both.

However, I fele like such a spare part, bored out of head, wish I never came. Im just sat on my own aimlessly scrolling on my phone. As they are both all over the place and by the time I find them they are gone again as our toddler is so excitable bless him.

He's having a great time. But I feel so sad sitting here wish I stayed at home 😪

4 month old

My boy is 4 months now and is feeding very frequently, he’s also grabbing my food as I eat and the other day grabbed my hand holding an orange and took it straight to his mouth lol

Is the increased hunger the 4 month growth spurt or is he shall I start giving him food properly now?

Am I the asshole here? What should I do?

Ok, so I need some mum advice please. I’m 33F and mum to an adorable 5 month old boy. Over very much become the default parent in our house. My finance (M36) works full time while I work 3 days a week and stay home the other 2 week days and look after our son. I am also currently enrolled and studying at university to get my degree. I don’t mind being the default, the reality is I spend more time with our son, so it makes sense that it would naturally happen. But today I tried to have a conversation with him about how I feel like I’m drowning in the mental load of running our house and looking after our son. I said to him that I needed him to just listen to me, and try to not get defensive because my goal was not to attack him or make him feel like shit, just that I need him to try and understand that it feels like I’m doing most of this on my own. For context, he does not take initiative at all when it comes to our son or housework. He relies on me to tell me what needs to be done, like when feeds need to happen, or naps or what kind of solids he can have, when bedtime needs to happen (which involves him having a shower with our son each night) he’s never the one to instigate these tasks. And from a housework point of view, about the only thing he “owns” is mowing the lawn and even then that happens rarely. I do the cooking and cleaning, I wash our bedding, do all the grocery shopping and make sure the animals have food and their medications.
Anyway, me asking for no defensiveness did not work and he immediately got angry that I would even bring it up. Whenever I have tired to have conversations like this in the past, it’s inevitable that he will bring it back to money. That’s his reason “you don’t understand the financial stress I’m under, I work full time so that I can pay our mortgage and the electricity and gas and water bills”. And this is true, I don’t contribute financially to our mortgage or the utility bills, but I do pay for our sons childcare and 90% of the groceries including formula and nappies, as well as all the babies clothes and accessories like bottles, his toys and bedding.
I don’t feel like what I’m asking is unreasonable. Today he told me “you’d be homeless if it wasn’t for me” and that nearly broke me. I don’t feel like I have a team mate or a partner in this anymore, it feels like he expects me to just lump it because he pays for the house and I should be grateful. I don’t have any family support in the same state as us and I have no close friends here either. I don’t know what to do. Am I being unreasonable for wanting him to contribute more at home?
