I’m a mom of a 19 month old and a 2 month old, since my youngest has been home I’ve been on maternity leave taking care of both the kids while my fiancé goes to work. About two weeks ago I started working again, not full time but doing part time 2-3 days a week for 6 hours each day . I bring my kids with me to work cause I work at a at home daycare my sister runs. So my kids are with me 24/7 . Usually when my fiancé gets home from work I give me about an hour of alone time before me or the kids even come down and “bug” him. Well today I asked him if he was ok with me going to the store by myself so I can have a little break… turns into a full argument. Telling me stay at home moms don’t get breaks (even tho I just started working again) telling me that he never gets a break and it’s just part of parenting even tho I give him plenty of breaks . I do dinner, I do bath time , I do bedtime, I do breakfast, I do everything! He only helps if I ask which I hate asking for help so I just do it or helps once in awhile . And he took that as me telling him he’s an abesent dad which I never said !! He helps when he wants but it’s just the fact that he said that is what pissed me off. Like I deserve a break, not just at nighttime when everyone is sleeping.. am I in the wrong here ? I just feel so mad at him rn and honestly it’s making me lose interest in him… like it turned into something that could have just been a conversation. It’s making me second guess our whole relationship 😩

Wow. You may have hit a nerve of a deeper issue.
I’m sorry babe, that’s so tough.
Yes you need a break too.
See if you can have an objective and non judgemental convo about his and your family expectations. (Use those words. Say you’re just curious. Don’t say what your motive is. Your motive is to see where his perspective is on family life). Let his talk it alllllll out before you say Anything. It’s gonna take everything in yourself not to interrupt or defend. It’s so freaking hard. But I’ve found men will shut down if felt judged.
Do this on a day he doesn’t work.
(after work is probably not a good time). And after or while you’re eating. Maybe even schedule it.
Then later you can have a convo about one or two ways that he can support you and you can work together against this hard season (not against each other) but DO NOT ask for him to change too many things at once.
Be concise and practical.
Communication and grace for your needs and his is key.
