Hi everyone!
I’m feeling so down at the minute. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 25 weeks, so now 5 weeks. I’ve trialed metformin and could only stomach 2 tablets but my fasting levels were still to high so they introduced insulin too. I’m now on 18 units and it’s still out of range!!
I know it’s not what I’m eating because my after meals are all within range it’s literally just my fasting, but it’s so frustrating.
What insulin levels do you take before your fasting levels settled? Just feel so guilty that it’s passing to my baby x

Please Don’t feel guilty. (I know easier said than done)
Aslong as your following guidance from your hospital, maintaining a healthy diet, staying hydrated you’re doing absolutely everything you can!
I ended up only being diagnosed later on in my pregnancy so unfortunately can’t give any advice on this. But your doing your best and that’s all you can do 💕💕

What insulin are you taking and it still is what your eating the food breaks down differently.
Coming from a type 1 diabetic

Have you tried a high protein snack before bed, not fasting for more than 8-10 hours, doing an evening walk for 10-15 mins and testing within 15 mins of waking up. I found these little tweaks made a difference to my morning readings.

By any chance do you have an endocrine disorder like PCOS? Sometimes people with this have insulin resistance so can eat fine but their levels still flare up. It's probably not your fault just manage the levels as best you can and baby will be fine

I remember someone once posting that fasting levels began to rise the moment you wake up. So I literally tested before I even sat up in bed on fasting days. Try that?
I ended up on 12 units of insulin so not as high but I also was told that as you progress, you need more intervention as the placenta is a fickle little thing!
I wish you luck for the last few weeks of your pregnancy.. if you’re anything like me, it will crawl by… but you’ll get there.
