Private births

Has anyone had a private birth experience? Particularly an induction? I am looking at going to the Portland Hospital for a 38 week induction and wondering what people's experiences have been.

We looked at paying private in the uk, and this hospital came up, but we live up north and we have opted for a home birth, for minimal intervention etc. we have probs spent £1000 on prep for our homebirth maybe a bit more, as our doula is a family friend and won’t take money so where buying her vintage cases of wine etc,
If your looking at it for a more intimate and special experience I would recommend just home birthing with a nhs team on side a doula from £500-£1500, and you can hire a private midwife for like £3-5k to do everything if you want.
As soon as you go into private maternity it’s double what I’ve quoted above and more, and still a hospital setting. Unless you’re spending a lot of money on the luxury birthing suites or whatever there called now. I just found it a lot of money for why it is. Xx

I understand private can be better also, the nhs couldn’t do much when my husband ankle was completely shattered, but spire where fab, they had the best doctor on the job on a bed for me etc, nice room, brought us meals we wanted, actual food like salads and steak. Same when the nhs for oncology for my friend was literally useless, but she cured incurable cancer in Germany and private clinics!
However with birthing, it seems to cost a lot for what you get here, that’s just my view, and there is literally London hospitals that’s it x

So frustrated! C section today

Today I’m booked in for an elective c section. After an awful induction process with my 1st that ended in an emergency c section, I had such big plans to make this one a lovely experience.

Take away the night before, my daughter at her grandparents so we can get a good night sleep 🩷

The grandparents wouldn’t have her because they both had work today, which was fine. She’s usually a really good sleeper and has 12 hours 7pm-7am no problem.

Nope, she’s been up every hour during the night and started her day at 5am. We are both exhausted!

Is this a good enough reason to reschedule my section!?

Early Labour enquiry

My waters broke at 29 weeks which was 2 weeks ago rough now I went into labour and put down in the labour ward and was contracting the day my waters broke they eventually calm down and I got sent up to award to be looked after then later on be sent home I then came back into hospital three days ago due to signs of infection as I was dizzy and headache, high temperature abdominal pain, reduced movements and severe chest pain and shortness of breath I’ve come in and I have no sign of infection apparently but my infection markers had risen but still in the safe zone. Then going back into the labour ward last night with contractions really close together and ended up losing quite a bit of blood which has now stopped contractions have slowed down but still there what is everyone’s experience with Early labour or possibility of having a premature? I feel like my body has failed me this pregnancy. Should I be worried

Hospital bags

Have we started to think about what to pack in our hospital bags yet? I’ll be having a home birth but to some extent there will be some things I’ll require to get in for the first crucial days of recovery.
Mums who’ve done it before - what brands and items have you found to work best?
First time mums like me - what are you thinking about taking to hospital with you?

Back pain and induced labour

Just had my 34 week midwife appointment (been referred for an urgent scan as baby is measuring a little too big) but, my midwife has suggested advocating for a induction from 37 weeks due to my severe back pain. I have scoliosis and struggling to leave the house without being in excruciating pain. I’m not completely against the idea but want to hear opinions of others on induction! Please nothing too scary :( x
