My daughter is very afraid of the trash truck. She shakes and cries when she hears it go by. I have tried to show her what it does but it didn’t help at all.
Usually I just hold her and we wait for it to pass but today we had to interrupt breakfast cause she was so scared

Have you tried like playing a video of trash trucks on the tv with low volume and the. Turning it up but by bit? There is also a really cute cartoon on Netflix of a trash truck it’s called “trash truck” it could show her they aren’t scary

Could it be the mechanical noise? Or just the truck sounds?
My kids have all loved the trash trucks. Matter of fact, the trash guys have been the first guys my now 1 yr old has waved to and tried to run off with. He loves that truck because it eats the trash. Wait, is it possible she might have seen like a video of a cartoon trash truck eating something like scary???

Work on it by comforting her through it and validating her feelings. Use toys and books to talk about vehicles and what they do, so they're not so scary. I have a kiddo who hates certain loud noises and was afraid of the garbage truck and sirens for awhile. Trains. Loud cars. Etc. It's getting better. Gentle exposure and patience.
If she's particularly sensitive to loud noise in general, headphones might help for overstimulating situations like large crowds.
