I worked in hotels for years. Typically people get twonrooms connecting or a suite if they can afford. Or one bedroom and bring a blow up or foldable bed. You can also request a rollaway bed if you are staying at a mid range hotel if the room is large enough. But most of the time we rejected rollaway bed request for a room with two queen beds in it due to it being a fire hazard. And no we didnt charge for having an extra kid or person in the room.

We get 2 attached rooms and we sleep in one and the kids in the other with the door open.

When I was a kid my parents just got 1 room 2 beds & had them bring up a cot.
