I am 38 weeks pregnant, had my GD at 28 weeks when I didn’t have diabeties. At 33 weeks did it again and GD was borderline. From then I am very controlled on diet but baby is 98 centile and weighs 3.3kg at 37 weeks scan with most of the weight around Abdominal circumference. Doctors are recommending c section at 39 weeks. It’s very disappointing as I was prepping myself for normal delivery. I am 5.1 and petite so doctors are saying there are chances of high grade tearing and also epiostomy. I also have an option for getting induction at 39 weeks which I am not sure about manual induction. Opinions please if anyone else has experienced the same problems. I am just unsure what to do

My baby was predicted to be 11lb 12oz at 40 weeks. He was born at 40+4 via emergency c-section at 11lb so they weren’t a million miles off he was a very big baby.
My baby couldn’t descend into my pelvis his head was too big (40cm).
Your best chance of birthing a big baby naturally is going into spontaneous labour and staying upright forward and open.
My baby at 37 weeks though was already >5kg.
Something to note is growth scans aren’t always accurate at all. My first was born vaginally at 9lb 11 with a 38cm head. They told me he’d be 8lb max.
Look at the big baby trial - induction isn’t recommended for large babies. You’ll almost certainly end up with an emergency c-section as baby is very likely to be malpositioned and big babies if baby is big only fit one way x

I had GD (not diet controlled) and a baby measuring 97th centile at 36 weeks. He came out via c-section at 38 weeks, weighing 8lb 11oz… so not huge but also not small. I’m not petite… but I didn’t want an induction because of the higher risk of needing an emergency c-section.

As far as I was aware baby isn’t measuring overly big as that’s 7.2lbs. Which is fairly average or just above average. Obviously it goes off your height etc too for percentages. My son was born at 37 weeks and was 8.4lbs.
As above though growth scans aren’t always accurate so it’s hard to just go by those. I think with big babies an induction is probably the worst route to go as it can go down the emergency section route anyways.
With regards to sections, I’ve had two. First was an emergency, I had sepsis and the recovery was absolutely horrid. I was so ill after, couldn’t eat for around 2 weeks and was throwing up loads. I had gotten to 7cm birthing prior to section so my body was tired. My second was still classed as an emergency as I went into labour before my planned section date but it was controlled and I was only at 3cm when I got taken in. I was having bad conditions but for a lot less time. My recovery with the ‘elective’ one was completely different….

… I felt totally fine after a week. Obviously there are still obstacles but the recovery was bliss compared to the emergency. Any birth is hard but weigh up the stats on if you’re going to get an emergency v planned section x

I had an induction at 39 weeks baby was born 8lb6, took 3 days and had an episiotomy recovery was quick, was able to walk to local shops within 24 hrs of him being born. Ask for your bishops score and that will give and idea of how well an induction will work
