Hello! Hope everyone is coping okay in the sunshine!
Has anyone had a growth scan before? I’m 26 weeks and I’ve got a growth scan when I’m 32 weeks I’m a bit worried as a few of my friends have had these (I know every pregnancy is different) and ended up being induced later on. I don’t want my baby to be induced too early if that’s the case.
But my question is wht happens at a growth scan? How does it work? I didn’t have growth scans with my first born so a bit on edge about having one with my second
Thanks

I had multiple growth scans due to my medication. The ones I take can produce a small baby. It can be just a precaution. I was induced but my son was born at a healthy 6lb 4 weight.
I'd say they are doing it as a precaution and it's better to have them than not. As I said my son was fine and he's now a happy 4 year old. Hope this provides a bit of reassurance xx

Is there a reason they want to do a growth scan?
My belly was measuring really small and the doctors weren’t worried because I’m thin and have a long torso, and baby was measuring around the 40th percentile for the majority of my pregnancy. But I just had a feeling something wasn’t right. I actually requested a growth scan at 35w. Turns out he had dropped to the 15th percentile so they booked me in for another scan at 37w. At that point he had dropped to the 1st percentile so they sent me in to get induced that day.
He 8 weeks old now and I’m so grateful I advocated for myself as he had clearly stopped growing near the end. In that case if left unchecked, a baby has a much higher chance of being stillborn if not induced early. Once they stop growing in the womb they have better success growing on the outside, and he’s been doing great.

I had growth scans as was an ivf pregnancy and the standard is to keep a closer eye on baby. I was already being pushed for an induction due to ivf and the scans showed baby was measuring on the larger side. This also spurred them on to push for an induction. I pushed back and said I wouldn’t be induced early if everything was progressing well.
You don’t have to agree to an induction, ask them to explain the reasoning and then you can do a bit of research into it.
For example when baby was measuring big they said that increased the risk of shoulder dystocia and therefore I should be induced early, but being induced increases the risk of shoulder dystocia so it just didn’t make sense to me. Xx
