My 13 month old is very chatty and has about 20 words. He has about 5-6 very clear words and the rest are unclear, for example eeee for tree or hop for help.
He gets incredibly frustrated when left with other family members as they cannot understand what he is saying (not at nursery). This often leads to throwing himself on the floor, throwing objects or getting upset. Often this happens because he is asking for something, like help or certain thing and the other person doesn’t understand.

Yeah my little girl had tantrums when she was frustrated about not being understood. It is a lot better now (23 months) in that sense as we can communicate so she doesn't get frustrated that we don't know what's she's saying, but now the tantrums are about being told no!

It is very common for toddlers to be frustrated and have tantrums, especially when there is a communication barrier. Wouldn’t you be frustrated if nobody understood you? It will phase out as their words become clearer and they can say more :)

Maybe write a list of words to translate? That what I ended up doing when looking after my niblings. My niece use to call cereal 'parsha' (no idea why) so I kept a little list of words and what they meant go her. I'd sometimes have to write it phonetically because I had no idea how to spell the made up words 😅😂 but it helped with the barrier and meltdowns!
