There is a super helpful page on Instagram called solid starts, they also have an app. Helped me soooo much with BLW. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself, little one is only 8 months old, it’s not too late at all! You can do it ❤️

Look around for a baby first aid and CPR class so you feel well equipped if something does happen. Really important to know the difference between gagging and choking too. If the baby is still making sounds, coughing ect then they have an air way which means it’s likely a gag rather than a choke xx

Same as above solid starts, a first aid course (my county did a free one through their adult education programme). Do you have a local family hub in your area? My local health visitors put on weaning courses that helped reassure me 🥰

highly recommended solid starts - they have a part on the app that tells you about cpr/choking vs scoffing, etc! x

Can I ask, was it choking or was it gagging? Gagging is completely normal and is a protective reflex. You shouldn't be frightened of gagging 😉
If they can make sounds then let them continue as they can breathe. If they cant breathe/make a sound then you intervene
Perhaps take a paediatric 1st aid course where you'll learn how to help a choking child

It is unlikely that he will have been about to choke, it's more likely that he was gagging. Babies need to get used to textured food and initially their gag reflex is much more sensitive while they adjust to more textured food. Try joining some baby led weaning groups on Facebook as they have really good advice on how to serve different foods (one group I like is called Weaning the BLW Way). My little boy has just turned one and I did baby led weaning but the first 2 months he wasn't interested at all then suddenly got the hang of it!

We’re at almost 9 months now and are in the same position! Instead of jumping straight to BLW we’re just slowly decreasing the smoothness of food if that makes sense? So a spag Bol, instead of blending it to a smooth puree we stepped it up by overcooking the past slightly and mashing it down into very small pieces and blended the bolognaise part, then stepped it up again and we don’t blend any of it smooth, we just mash it down and plan to slowly decrease how mashed it is. Today he’s had Rice Krispies for breakfast, I just let them go super soft before feeding it to him. He’s got 2 bottom teeth so I’ve been giving him a bite of toast if I’m having some and he literally has the smallest corner and has been doing so well so now we share toast for breakfast or he had some pizza the other day in exactly the same way
