Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a bit of advice and reassurance. My little one is 4 weeks old and seems to cry almost all the time unless he’s asleep or feeding. As soon as he’s awake, he becomes fussy and cries, and it feels like we’re constantly trying to soothe him.
He’s feeding well and sleeping albeit on me 24/7, but there doesn’t seem to be much time when he’s awake and content. I’m starting to wonder if this is normal newborn behaviour or if there could be something else going on.
Has anyone else experienced this with their baby around this age? Did it improve as they got older, or did you find there was a reason behind it? Any tips, advice, or similar experiences would be really appreciated.
Thank you!

My baby was like this too. I wore her in the baby carrier a lot and we also took her to a pediatric chiropractor which was awesome! Babies (like any humans) can read the room to-meaning that they know when you as their parent are upset/anxious etc… if you are calm, it will affect your baby and help baby be calm. Babies and small children can’t regulate themselves so they need to co-regulate with their parents. When I was feeling overwhelmed with the crying I would trade off with my husband and calm down. I found my baby likes to be rocked in the bathroom with the fan on while I hummed or sang in a low voice and held her close to me. I would make sure that my breathing was slow so she could feel my calm.
Now my daughter is 9 months and is such a joy! I have so much FUN with her every day. It does get better. You’ve got this friend 💕

You sound like you’re doing such a good job as a new mum ❤️I hope they settle for you soon x

My first was like this. She started to be unsettled around 4 weeks and unfortunately for us it didn't stop until she was 11/12 weeks. It could be trapped wind or colic, or something else. Some babies just cry a lot. But for us she just had to grow out of it. I really hope your little one settles soon x

My first baby was like this and it is truly exhausting! Just know you are doing an amazing job and it does pass!
Things you could try: baby wearing as much as possible, seeing an osteopath, having an oral assessment to check for tongue tie etc, probiotics to help with wind/tummy issues, keeping upright for at least 20/30 mins after a feed in case there is some reflux.
Ultimately we never found a solid reason for it but it started to improve around 4 months old and continued to improve from there. Once she started to be able to sit up independently and play more around 5/6 months it was much much better.
Best of luck xxxxx
