How are we getting into a routine with our babies? I have a 5week old who wakes feeds sleeps different each day, also she can be awake for hours in morning and basically sleep the whole afternoon and eve apart from feeds so finding wake windows difficult. Any advice or tips would be helpful.

For the last 2 weeks I fixed my son’s day‑night confusion by capping all his daytime naps at 2 hours and feeding him every 2.5–3 hours, even if I had to wake him. I kept his awake times bright and active. In the evening, I swapped his long nap for a short 20‑40 minute catnap so he’d be tired enough for a longer night sleep. A calm bedtime routine (bath, quiet time, a full feed on both breasts) helped him. I also did a dream feed or a quick pump overnight to avoid engorgement. Within a few days, his night stretches went from 2 hours to 3‑4 hours. It wasn't instant, but it worked! I just don’t interact with him or talk much at night and I keep the room very dark.

My advice would be to not stress over it. My little girl is also 5 weeks and I'm just going with it. I was the same with my older two and they got themselves into their own routine and both are great sleepers (7pm-7am). Just don't put any pressure on yourself. As soon as you get them into any sort of routine at this age they'll have a growth spurt, be poorly etc and the routine will change the next day 😂 xx

Their circadian rhythm doesn't mature enough until about 12 weeks so routine will be hit and miss until after then.
Just go with the flow. They are still trying to learn that they are a separate person from you (Google 4th trimester). A routine will come naturally over time xx
