For context me and my partner both work on the same department in the same company but on different teams with different functions.
Around 3 months ago my partner put in a request to condense his hours in to a 4 day week with one day off to look after our baby. I was also looking to do the same so our baby would only need to go to nursery 3 days and family members are helping with pick up/after nursery.
My partner's hours for some reason only got agreed yesterday and he has been given Wednesday off. Because it took so long to agree we lost one of the days we had reserved (we were able to reserve 4/5 before for some wiggle room).
We're now stuck with needing Monday covered and I've just been told I can't get it off.
I just don't really know what to do now, the only reason we don't have Monday is because they took so long!
I've emailed the nursery to see if we can get back on the waitlist for Monday. If I don't go back at all I will have to pay back some of my enhanced pay.
Just stuck really!

Could you appeal the decision at work and if that doesn’t work use annual leave for Mondays until a place becomes available at nursery?

Might be worth looking at your company policy. My work had to let me know within a certain time period. If you are saying they took ages, look into this as you could have a case.
