My kid is still young, but when he gets to that age, he can work if he wants to. I believe in autonomy and also it’ll teach him responsibility. It’s ultimately his decision, but of course we’re going to educate him on responsibility and maintaining good grades for his future. He’s going to be out in the world at some point, a job is a good place to start.

Yeah lots of people have jobs while in school and I want my son to know the importance of hard work and financial literacy. Especially depending on the level of education they pursue.

Yes because it shows them how to earn for the things they want, teaches them good lessons for the future. And it’s good discipline too! Obviously it’s not for their family at that young of an age, their money is theirs. But having a role play of paying for rent will also help them in the future too, make them learn to save what they need for bills.

If they want a cell phone and to drive a car it is required.

When theyre in hs. If they want to AND their grades are doing well AND their extra curricular is not taking a hit then absolutely..if thats something they feel they want to do for themselves then sure. However, I dont want them missing out on things like prom or game nights or practice or vacations because they're boss wont give them time off. I worked in HS and I never attended any school activities like games or those camping trips or joined my friends for a Friday night movie, besides prom and I actually had to skip school so I could work a morning shift instead of my 2-10p shift. I wish I had the choice of quitting so I could just be a kid. Those years fly and I dont want my child missing out on things they want to do during their teenage years. There will be plenty of time to work like an adult.

My 17 year old does not have a job and I don’t expect him to. I want him to finish school, that’s the most important thing to me. Plenty of time to work when he’s graduated.
