Has anyone else’s GP surgery started asking if this is an “urgent medical request”?
For reference I’ve got a young toddler with green gunky eyes she’s had for over a week I’ve done my best to keep away from the doctors and treated with breastmilk and cooled boiled water and I’ve taken her to the pharmacy to see if they could treat it. But they said because of her age she was too young to be using anything over the counter. Plus she’s woken up rubbing her ears and are full of wax so is suspect an ear infection ontop of things. So basically it’s time to get her checked by a Gp.
I said all of the above and the lady on reception still asked if I felt she was needing to be seen my a doctor and I said well yeah I guess so hence why I’m calling 🤷🏼♀️😐
Honestly genuine question, why do they make you feel like you’ve either got to be having a heart attack to warrant an appointment? I do feel for them as I’m sure they get so many time wasters and I know appointment are few and far between but truly i just don’t feel like it warrants being made to feel like your asking for the world when you call with a genuine medical issue.
I’m really struggling with this attitude you are met with. I’m self employed pay my taxes and if I spoke to any of my customers in that fashion I would t have a business. So why do they get away with it?
Sorry rant over

U can go to the pharmacy for that plus get a warm cloth and wipe it x

It’s a legitimate question designed to relieve pressure on gp surgeries and ensure those who really need it get an appointment.
Sometimes they can offer a phone consultation for patients, sometimes you can fill in a non urgent form and get a callback at their convenience, sometimes a pharmacist is more appropriate. Not saying any of these things are true for you in this instance, but they might well be for however many other people are ringing for appointments that morning.
Imagine being so pissed at someone doing their job 🫠

Plus they might need to know how urgent it is, what if they can’t offer you a same day appointment but it’s a matter of urgency? They can then redirect you to 111 or a&e as appropriate.

Does your GP surgery offer online booking? Everyone hates it lol but I love it, always get seen quickly

My little girl had this and because the eye gunk was green they swabbed and it was bacterial so gave drops which did the trick

Unfortunately this is now standard practice. They call it triaging, my GP has been doing this for awhile now and the final question they ask is what would you like them to do. It's to let the triage doctor know what's going on and they determine if it's a same day appointment thing or can book for the next day or later in the week
