Hi guysss, have a hysteroscopy with a biopsy booked in about 2 weeks with just local (injection). Has anyone else had it before and what was their experiance ? I’ve been on TikTok and I am now petrified. Some people have said it’s horrendous however others have said they couldn’t even feel it or slight cramping - so basically 2 extremes. I’m petrified 😭

Hi, I have never had it myself, but I've done them before maternity leave. As you said, it's very variable. Some people tolerate it really well and just report some mild cramps. Others find it really uncomfortable/painful. My only advice is to try to be as relaxed as possible, try to control your breathing (slow it down), take some painkillers before having it (they usually tell you what to take depending on their protocols) and just try to be open minded knowing that you don't have to endure it if it's too much for you, there's the option of having it under general anaesthesia too! If you're willing to try, it's worth trying it awake simply because you can be one of those people that find it ok and if so you can avoid general anaesthesia, a day procedure and delays while waiting for the operating theatre. However, if you try and it's not for you, just know you can ask to stop and just do it in theatre!

Hi, I had something similar, but it was a polypectomy. They use something similar to the hysteroscope but slightly larger as they’re cutting tissue. I just got told to take painkillers, didn’t have a local injection. To be honest I wasn’t able to do it - as the scope was larger they had to scrape away a bit of cervical tissue and I found it too painful.
Don’t let this freak you out though, as they stopped as soon as it was too much, and offered me the same under general anaesthetic instead - they were really organised and I was back in a week. The GA experience was amazing, really straightforward, no pain or sickness afterwards.
As the person above said, it’s very individual as to how it will be as everyone’s anatomy and bodies are so different, but do be reassured that you don’t have to persevere if it’s too much, and that the GA option is there! You might find it fine with the local injection though :) Hope it goes ok!

Il be honest, mine was horrendous BUT I can barely tolerate a smear. I would say if you get a smear with no issues then you'll be fine, if you struggle it'll feel similar. Once they are in and the catheter goes through there isn't much to feel but for me it was getting it in the first place.
After was fine, mild pain type cramps for the rest of the day.
I've had 4 rounds of IVF and after the first transfer had all under sedation, I'm a massive whimp when it comes to that lol
