My 1 year old has been going to nursery for nearly 4 weeks and the drop off’s are getting worse not better. He screams, crys and clings onto me so neither myself or a nursery worker can hand him over. As soon as we walk up to the door he realises and cries before I’ve even rung the bell for someone to come out. I’ve never seen him so distressed until now😭 His anxiety is so bad he now cries through his baby groups he’s been happily going too for. Once he is in he is settled but the drops off are awful for the both of us. months. I know it’ll take time but surely there’d be even a slight improvement by a month? I don’t know what to do if this continues as it feels so wrong leaving him in such a bad state

A month in is really soon! My son has been at nursery since 11 months and at almost 3 he still cries some mornings, but loves it as soon as he’s there! Nursery is a huge adjustment to you both, if he’s happy once there just give it time. Separation anxiety generally is rife around that age too.
Keep drop off brief, see you tonight I love you and walk away. The more prolonged it is the harder it is for baby x

Is there anyone else that could try doing drop off like dad or grandparents? As someone who works in a nursery I often found that drop offs are much harder for young children when it’s their mam dropping as they are so used to and attached to you x

Month is not long at all lovely. Probably 12w til it improves.
So sorry it's so stressful and heartbreaking 💜💗
