Bit of background.
I had an tramatic emergency c section with my 1st (under general) resulting in a weeks stay in hospital.
Now..37wk with GD and they have brought me forward to deliver via elective next week due to him measuring over 8lb allready!
Can’t help but worry due to what me and baby went through with my 1st and also worried staying in hospital for a long time due to having a 3yr old at home.
So any positive stories to try put my mind at rest would be great!
Thanks x

I had emergency with my forst as well and my 2nd was a elective section. Honestly its so much nicer. Less rushed alot more calm

I had my C-section a week ago. My baby was 7.9lbs. I was 39 weeks. They asked to make my incision a little bigger so they could get him out without a struggle which was good as he had his cord around his neck.
Took about 10 mins from start to seeing my baby. We had skin to skin and everything was fine.
I had an allergic reaction to the spinal so I insisted on going home the next day as soon as possible. They were super considerate and understanding of my wishes and they prioritised our discharge. We are at home recovering.
I was worried I would feel like I missed out on a natural birth as this is my first but it was a brilliant experience the team were happy to record and take photos and videos. They were conversating with me and keeping me updated on everything they were doing as I mentioned my anxiety to the team and in my birth preferences.

I had an elective back in December and it was an amazing experience. The radio was on throughout and a nurse took photos of everything for us. Once baby was delivered and the cord was cut she was put on me and stayed on me throughout the rest of the operation. All the staff were lovely throughout

I had a c section following a failed induction at 38 weeks. I had preeclampsia and GDM. I walked down to theatre with my partner and midwife, chatting away as we walked down, i walked into the anaesthetic room and met the anaesthetist and the ODP who introduced themselves and just chatted away, walked into the theatre and sat on the bed and everyone introduced themselves to me and my partner. Everyone was calm and relaxed, asked if I wanted music / did i have a playlist. We went with the radio. I then had the cannula put in again whilst everyone just chatted away, it took a while for them to get my spinal as i struggled with the position as baby was kicking away but eventually they got it and did all their checks to make sure i was properly numbed and they began - i hardly even realised it had properly got started. The anaesthetist was the one telling me where they were up to and keeping me updated. Then i heard my son cry and he was born at 12:43pm!

I had twins and ended up with preeclampsia. Because of that I had to give birth at 35+2. When I say my c section was good? I was numbed properly. So much I couldn’t even feel pressure and it was so emotional too. Every doctor and nurse was amazing! Babies were in the nicu for 2 weeks but they are thriving !

I had an elective week 37, 5 weeks ago. I have an amazing memory from it, the scariest part was walking into the room with so many people and bright lights, but everything went so well, no pain and beautiful experience seeing my baby being born and I felt so secure and well looked after. It was a bit painful afterwards, but the midwives were literally angels looking after me x

My first was an emergency and VERY traumatic, was in hospital with infections for months after birth and a catheter for 3 months post birth
I was terrified for my elective c section, but it was the best experience i could have hoped for. It was so calm, completely stress free, and such a good experience, had no problems and released after 24 hours
there is more time to explain things and to wait, so there’s no rush which takes off 95% of the stress

I had planned c sections both times. All super smooth, you go in and it’s a calm atmosphere. The staff are really lovely and take their time to make sure you’re comfortable. When you’re in the theatre there is usually music playing and the staff are chatting away and making you laugh. Really positive experience all the way for me 🙌🏼❤️

My OB did an amazing job! With me trying to move around on day 3 and no complications, we were out of there. Just took some Tylenol and ibuprofen alternated at home. Baby was born at like 9.8 lbs estimated to be 11 before birth. And now like 1.5 years later I can barely see my scar 😏 could totally get away with a bikini if I wanted to. Although I think I need to get checked for diastasis recti, but that’s no fault of the surgery or my OB it’s just something that happens. To be noted they did give me an Epidural but I didn’t feel pain anywhere just movement.

Generally, an elective will be a much different experience than an unplanned c section. Recovery is going to be very similar (typically minus any labor experiences), but it just feels like you have a scheduled surgery one day and then after you have your baby. You’ll have nerves as who wouldn’t, but it’s generally a “calm” experience depending on what calm means to you!
I had an overall good elective c section experience due to placenta previa. Despite losing a LOT of blood, me and baby did well and I didn’t need an infusion. I had a TON of itchiness and vomiting afterwards that I’ll ask to be pre medicated for in a future c section if needed lol
Stayed in the hospital the 2 nights, which is typical when I’m from
